The anti-English message has been emanating from Scotland for decades. We are over it. When a little is sent back the way, there is uproar. Why?

End of the day, we are talking about different levels of tribalism here. We all love to know our place in our world, whether that is purely Scottish, Scottish / British (which I would associate myself with) etc. etc.
You go back 30 years, 50 years, to the second world war, and you'd find that this self of identity as being British. Maybe that's been lost in what many may seem as a political system that has in itself failed to pay enough attention to Britain in itself. The ultimate consequence is that regions have taken to considering their own future within this current arrangement.
Do I think the Westminster political system is broken and in need of reform - yes.
Do I think the concept of Britain (as the GB, UK etc.) as a collection of slightly different, but fundamentally similar people unworkable - No
Do I think we will miss out on many positive things as a result of independance, and no longer play a role in shaping the UK - yes
Do I think we (small bunch of ~5 million pasty-faced people) have injected anew sense of introspection into the UK political psyche - quite possibly.
This whole debate / referendum process should not be about "Scottishness", it should be about what is the best constitutional and (within that) economic future of a region of the British Isles. Whether that region decides place the concept of being "Scottish" at the top of the pile is up to them. I'd say its a mix just now, and has delivered a slightly confusing message.
Like any 'revolutionary' change (step change in w4nk management speak), you have to accept and expect significant uncertainly and pain as the transition from one arrangment to another... I wish this was more obvious to people (the fault of the politicla classes, whether based in London or Edinburgh).

I think what you are saying there is part of the problem.
There is a substantial change being proposed and that inevitabley comes with significant risk.
But we keep hearing no, no. Everything will be wonderful, Scotland is so amazing and life will be a bed of roses with independence. We've done all the sums (honest), it will just be great. The old system and being stuck with having to do what the English wanted was ****. All generally phrased slightly more diplomatically way of course.
All just started to rub people up the wrong way and get on peoples nerves a bit.
So in summary, I blame Scott and Salmond for turning us all into grumpy old codgers

Question is, will they actually meet any members of the public and answer their questions? Probably not.
Expect selected press interviews after speeches in front of selected audience members. They've learned nothing. Ed Milliband has asked that councils across Britian fly saltires.
Its not about identity stupid! :

Ikechi Anya is class Harry.
He's a great little winger. Really surprised he hasn't been snapped up. To be fair if he can keep playing like that for Scotland I'm happy for him to stay where he is at Watford!

Agreed. Its looking at bit silly now, and all appearing far too last minute... Putting up Saltires randomly??
If the union is broken, it won't be on the basis of its merits and the benefits it brings us, but to the lack of focus by those running the campaign to maintain it..
