Aberdeen Asset Management are the largest investment house in Europe. The bank said in a statement that it believed it would be "necessary to re-domicile the bank's holding company". In a letter to staff, the bank's chief executive said there was no intention to move operations or jobs. Meanwhile, Scotland's largest fund manager's boss said an independent Scotland would be a huge success. Martin Gilbert, chief executive of Aberdeen Asset Management said: "I think an independent Scotland would be a big success, but it is a secret ballot and I will abide by that. "Most sensible people now accept that Scotland would be prosperous with either outcome in the current constitutional debate."

I would also like to remind the panel that the same panic happened before the devolution vote.
This is NOTHING like devolution... This is not another stepping stone along the controlled and sensible progression of further devolution that we are being offered. This is a mad, pride-filled, emotionally stoked stab in the dark, all based on a premise of an over-optimistic world, ignorant of the real challenges, and predicted on hatred and distrust of a system that (whilst needing reform), has delivered us to where we are. Its a fundamental change that's beind led by a party who has a singular aim in life..
We are talking about splitting up a country thats worked together (and well) for ~300 years.
Its not a tweak to the current system.
Its not mostly the same, but swapping out the flags and redirecting some social spending priorities to suit our short-term desires..
This is different.
(Sorry if I laboured the point)

And what do think Martin Gilbert's view of an independant Scotland consists of? Social justice? Redistribution of wealth? Avoiding the privatisation agenda?
Unlikely. I'm sure he would love a free-market, neo-liberablist economy where a company that deals with others wealth can 'manage' these for them... I'm not sure he fits into the reasoning behind what many yes voters percieve as a fairer society. But hey, if he appears to support your cause, then use him..

Read the bit from Ian Cheshire onward.
Okay. I read that. Still none the wiser as to why you picked that out.
It seems to reinforce the supermarket comments that they'll take a look at pricing in light of changes and that there may be cost implications to doing business in an independent Scotland with a different and smaller market.
Or is it the "urged to speak out" bit you take offence at? It doesn't say they've been urged to lie by Cameron. Just urged to comment in public about what their previously private/internal concerns might be. Surely no different to the SNP "urging" the pro-Yes businesses to comment?
Actually scrub that, the B&Q boss rightly doesn't come out in favour of voting one way or the other, unlike the total Yes bias shown by the SNP300 (or however many business leaders they were quoting the other day in support). But I guess it's only bias/lies/scaremongering when it comes from the No side or the rUK.

Thankyou. If I may say, i am totally ignorant to all this and thats is because in the nicest possible way I really don't care. My feeling is that unless there is massive top-level corruption there will be a yes victory. I therefore wish Scotland well. But if it means that Gleneagles becomes more expensive i will be angry. - ignorant Southerner signing off -A week today Goose.

The urged to speak out part Matt yes. Companies that would most likely ride it out as they exist in various parts of the planet without being arsed are being prodded to speak out to make a case for a panicing establishment. All on the back of one bloody poll?? What's going on?
So they were urged to speak out - and what did they say - "We actually see no problems what so ever with Scottish independance, and have no plans to move"... Nope. They expressed their concerns and advised on contingency plans to move, all caused by one thing, a yes vote..
Sounds like Scott's have a badish day, what with all this logic and sensibleness floating around
They didn't put devomax on the vote paper partly to avoid a split vote, and potentially, independance by minority. Thinking about it the other day, I think the bar should have been set higher for such a big decision, like maybe a minimum 60% vote for it..

Still no comment on the uk gov forcing rbs's hand?
Just like Budgets, Queen's speeches and every other kind of announcement, it leaked. It could have been leaked from within RBS just as easily as from somebody in the Treasury. It just serves Salmond better to accuse the Treasury and the Westminster conspiracy whilst crying for a public enquiry to deflect attention from the actual content. It would have been public knowledge at 7:00am anyway.
