And the winner is.... Nigel Farage.

Not if the 85% of the electorate get off their arse and vote.

The one massive positive out of the whole campaign is that a large mass of people who had never bothered voting suddenly woke up and voted.  There were two lassies in their 30s in front of me who had clearly never been in a voting station in their life and they decided to vote.  People are actually disappointed that "only" 75% of voters turned out in Glasgow. Disappointed !!!

If the Uk general elections see anywhere close to an 85% turnout then there is no danger that UKIP will get in in any numbers.   We all have the power.

I would hazard a guess that the sort of people that don't ever vote are maybe not the best judge of what's best for the countries future.....damn that democracy thing again!

The alternative is that only the people that REALLY care vote and i'm not sure they are the best people to decide either :D

It's wonderful that 85% of people voted. I am deeply ashamed at our 60-65% turnout, but that's not what I meant.

I don't expect Nige to get in... but you watch how much air time is taken up with his English independence rhetoric now.

Commiserations Scott. If it's any consolation I thought your campaign on VX220.org.uk was much better than the official yes and no campaigns.

So now the yes campaign is showing it's true colours. My aunt, uncle and cousin are Scottish and living in Scotland. They voted no and are now being called scum, cowards, traitors, not worthy of the air. He did more in his 22 years in the BRITISH army for Scotland than most of those fuckwits and is still on the front of most of the Edinburgh tattoo posters. Dickheads.

I'm sorry that's happening. But try not to confuse "the yes campaign" with the few hot headed fucktards which exist on both sides. Its an important time and choice and there's always going to be a bit of bother with the stress its caused. Anyone else trying to do this would have been doing it down the barrel of a gun. Some disagreement and shouty shouty is undesirable but a lot better than the alternative. I'd have to ask how people know how they voted? If they've made a big statement about it then they've stuck their necks out. Much the same as the yes voters party's in George Sq were greeted by the police holding back a bunch of fucktards covering their faces, doing hands of ulster signs, waving union flags and singing loyalist songs. I don't think they represent the mostly grey, middle class vote which won yesterday. It'll all settle down, we're getting it too.

I heard a news report earlier on, a 16 year old was being interviewed on why they voted yes.

Their response:

"Well, I just went on instinct really, it felt right to say yes."

So, let me get this straight, they were seriously going to put the future of their country in the hands of their 'instinct'? Absolutely ridiculous. At least if you were going to vote yes, do it in an educated and informed manner.

That's why the Yes campaign wanted the vote lowered to 16yrs. All teenagers are by default anti-establishment. Maybe over time having the vote so young might give a country a more mature teenage population, but it seems a risky strategy.

Instinct = Facebook bandwagoning ;)

I'll give it another 3 years before we do all this again in one form or another
