Hy Steffen, nice work on the brakes ! I've been googling for weeks and was about to draw up some brackets of my own when I came across this thread. I'd love a set of brackets for rear mounted APs if you still have a set available? I also am interested in the handbrake. Interestingly I know its not strictly vxr, but I'm doing an audi conversion on an elise and would love some feedback on braking performance with the AP rears on standard front and also perhaps with the 4 pot fronts? Are the 4 pots massively different and worth the extra money or would you and the forum stick with AP 2 pots all round? Is a bias valve needed? Thanks Dov

Yes I still have brackets. The last version of the handbrake I mounted sunday, but I give the car on monday away for 2 weeks for a new mapping. If you go only on the road it is enough 2pot+2pot. If you go on track it is better to use 4pot 308mm + 2pot 288mm You don't need a bias valve, with 4+2, and with 2+2 you can set it with different brake pads. What kind of Elise do you have? Mk1 or Mk2? It is a ex-Rover Mk2?

I have these. Worth checking out your relative piston size ratio front to back, before and after fitting these...and adjusting to suit. You ideally need more piston area at the front in the same ratio as standard. - With the asymmetric AP 4 pots this would not be enough front area, and so you'd need to fit a more bitey pad. Ie RC6 instead of RC5 - or you'll lock the rears all the time.

How do you fit the front caliper to the rear upright?

Sorry not having a good evening!

I looked at the pictures of the handbrake spot caliper and went from there.

Price is € 210.- included transport.

I have the Ap4 with 4x 38,1 mm pistons on the front and I drive with RC6 on the front and on the rear with the AP2.
On the vid you can see that my car is a little bit oversteering (I hate understeer!) but not when I braking!

And the spot handbrake, how much for that?

I have 4x38.6mm pistons up front. - This is about right. The asymmetric cast type calipers would be a bit off.

Nice vid there..no oversteer when braking,,thats good lol.. Thx for info john, so you think too much rear with just the rear 2 pots on? I ws thinking to raise front bias by altering calliper height so torque? maybe 300mm disc and calliper spacing.. Steffan, if you PM your bank details, i'll transfer some funds for a set of brackets. lot of lotus talk on CL pads deterioration, is it the same experiences here? You both seem to like and use them. I have some new rs4-2 but would need to swapout the rear set for something else to fit another calliper if I go that route..

Not heard of recent issues with the RC5s. Mine were good pads. Talk of a bad batch, but then mud sticks! - Especially when its safety critical! The AP 2 pots have large pistons, the rear brembos a bit smaller. This is how brake bias is observed on the VX. Going up in disk size makes a much smaller difference, perhaps 3-4% compared to say 25% when fitting the 2 pots to the rear. With same pads all round you'd lock the rears and this is very dangerous - take it from me. Fitting the 2x 38.1mm AP 4 pots without increasing rear braking is nearly as dangerous! 2 pots front/rear would be ok only if you fit measurably higher COF pads to the front. With Pagid/CL this info is available. Stefan has a great setup - similar to mine but with much stiffer, higher quality front calipers. This would be good enough for any application short of GT2!

(52% actually) - which puts stock brake bias at 60/40 front rear. (Ie 60 is 50% more than 40 - see?)

Hy Steffen, monies transferred to paypal account for caliper brackets, thx v much. John, I'm considering 2 pots allround and a bias valve to rear, whats your opinion? The VAG motor may put more weight over rear and further affect balance from stock??
