If your OE gear cable are shot and if you can't find any other alternative DO NOT BUY THE TUTHILL OFFERINGS.

So spent two hours in the snow today trying everything I could to make them work but to no avail. The lower left right cable simply does not give enough movement to get all the way across the gate and sucessfully manages to keep both 1st and 2nd gears well out of the party.

Upper one (the one with the big end on the gear box end is OK, the other one simply will never ever work. Bad design and poor effort.

With a bit of luck it will stay here long enough for a discussion this time. Has anybody else had these problems?

Similar to the issue I had when fitting them for Dave..... That's a shame that tuthill have gone to the dogs with the cables. Time to find a new supplier me thinks.

Yvo has a supplier for the Elise ones, maybe his supplier would make VX ones. Worth asking I guess?

General question - Do gear cables go (like many things on a VX) becuase of over/hard use, because they just do age etc, or other?

Usually because they get too hot and the lining inside the outer cable melts and sticks to the inner control cable.

tend to go because of temperature either snapping or too hot generally due to track/3" exhaust etc

Agreed, but worth firing off an email no?

I mean, this is a prime example where your review could make or break vx220 sales for them.
Currently, they are to be avoided at all costs, so you'd hope they'd want to resolve your issue and possibly help you out a little more.

I was over at AtomX's workshop t'other day and he mentioned a potential supplier as he had some custom length cables made up to suit his new gearbox arrangement. He said they were very reasonably priced as well. Buggered if I can remember who it was though (other than not Tuthill).

Dont count on it. When I had issues getting them to fit and had a bill for extra labour they weren't interested. Gave up trying in the end.
