The boys at BOT just found out that I have some cracks in my Elise Parts Discs (fronts). I only fitted these discs about a year ago, have only done three trackdays on them and hardly any roadmiles. The pads (Pagid) still have quite some life in them. Obviously I trust Stef fully and he reckons the discs have obviously gotten too hot and reckons it may be down to me trailbraking? I am quite surprised (and a bit disappointed) and was wondering if anyone had any experience with this set up?

IMO trailbraking is an essential part of track driving. I use std discs and RC5+ pads and trail brake all the time and have never had any issues with discs. If the discs can't handle the heat I'd say the product is not fit for purpose.

are they drilled discs? if so just get plain discs, as most drilled items are drilled AFTER casting which leads to cracking.... if they were cast in 'drillings' then they will be much less susceptible to cracking but mega cash.

I got my bog standard mintex discs so hot at silverstone, you could see the vanes on the surface as if it was rippled. just heat expansion and caused no problems.

Same from me.... standard discs and mintex and have got them hot enough on track to cause lots of little micro cracks in the surface of the dics... doesn't seem to be a problem tho, will just change them when I change pads

Agree ... but still  I only found this quote on the eliseparts website just now: If you are racing the car or have more than 190 bhp we advise the use of our AP discs and bells

I am not sure that was on there before, had I seen that, I defo wouldnt have bought

Lemme get this right, with the cracks you are still using the discs?

That's been there for as long as I can remember, certainly 3 years. I'm running those bells and rotors on the rear of my car and have had no problems (as you'd expect on the rear) but run the AP 295mm bells and rotors on the front. Had no problem with those either, even when I absolutely cooked them with sh!tty YellowTurd pads at Bedford a couple of years back.

You haven't stated whether the cracks radiate out from the drillings or are not connected to them. Porsche permit cracks of 8mm from the drillings before they recommend changing.

At this stage that would mean another eye-watering £ 1000 to replace these discs. But I Imnotworthy to that set-up (in hindsight)

Dunno, havent seem them yet. Will report back later. Tnx for the benchmark of 8mm ... even if it comes from P poof rsche

They are cheap discs, don't expect too much from them.

Drilled discs are an option, I have the same discs but chose grooved, not drilled, and they have been fine so far (used on road and track). Only fitting was a bit iffy, had to file the pads a bit as they didn't fit...
