Have trawled around the site and there are a number of solutions, but couldn't easily work out which is cheapest or generally regarded as the best. So what would you do: 1) Hammer a 19mm socket on the locking nuts, remove and replace them with 4 ordinary bolts. My fear is the nut will split, or head will spin etc. making getting them off a complete bastard then me resorting to going round the local garage to get them off ££. 2) Order a replacement key from McGuard or Astonvauxhall. Think option 2 is safer but I'm not too bothered about having locking nuts on the car as I don't want this situation to happen again, and who steals alloys these days anyway?

I have a kit here that belongs to Techieboy which we used to get a set off, in fact that reminds me, the owner of that car owes Techie a new set of blades for it.

Go to a meet and try the keys from the other cars there. The second one I tried fitted. A spare set of bolts to replace the removed locking set would help!

Option 1. It took less then 5 minutes to get all 4 of my locking wheel bolts off - but mine were correctly torqued. If yours have been blatted on with an air wrench you might have a problem. PS Replace with ordinary bolts.

Cheers guys. They were correctly torqued with a torque wrench by me so should be reasonably easy to remove. Think I'll order some ordinary replacements and be a cheapskate by trying other peoples' keys at the Peak district meet next weekend though, then resort to 19mm socket if nobody's fits thumbsup

It is safely tucked up in my garage still. Who was it that borrowed it Matt?

I did the 19mm socket thing myself after having a momnt leaving the locking nut in one of the wheels after replacing the alternator.... took 5 mins and a set of 5 bolts was £3 i think from Vauxhall I had to use a vice and a big screw driver combo with a lump hammer to free the socket from the bolt as you need to smack the socket on to a fair extent

Post up a pic of your bolts and someone may have the key for it as most have removed their locking nuts and no longer need the key.

If anyone has a matching key and is going to the peak district next Sunday I'd be grateful if you would let me borrow it on the day :) . Going to order some ordinary bolts to replace, local garage wanted £4 per bolt!

I never swing on the locking wheel nut so mine came off very very easy with the 19mm socket You can give it a try,it will not damage the cut out shape, it just puts a few grooves on the outside of the nut.

Quick n00b question - where is the locking wheel nut stored on the VX? I've had a cursory look but no joy, and I'm too lazy to RTFM

When I got mine it was in a box sitting by the fuses under the front bonnet

Found it, much obliged! Stupidly I was looking straight at it earlier wondering what it was....
