Sorry for the lack of an update, i got selected to go to an interview and that took up all of my time preparing for that. So I havent had a chance to be locked up/castrated/declared a witch/charged with indecent exposure. I have spoken with Mike, they chap that built my system and we are going to go ahead with a couple of plans of making an internal resonator (similar to the chambered system on a milltek, but in a pipe and also turning the tail tipes so that the top one faces 30 degrees to the left and the bottom 30 degrees to the right. i will then have an interchangable rear tail pipe- the turning will not make a difference to the actual noise, but it will make a big difference to the percieved noise, particularly on track which is where i fell that the design of the vx does its self no favours as the pipes are always facing the sensors or the copper's silly little microphone...

I was speaking with Mani on Sunday, and he assures me that the Miltek was a factory fit option as well as a dealer option. I'm not going to argue with people as I haven't had my car from new, but I'm now being told two different things. Secondly, its a tough call as to whether to fight it or not. I hear the debate for, as it may be more hassle than its worth to follow through and prosecute. That said, its easy to say that if it isn't you. However, as another for fighting it, is if all drivers just laid down and accepted it, then it makes it an easy target for future money generation. If more motorists fight it, then it becomes less cost effective to follow through.

my reason for wanting to contest/investigate further is that if i dont, and i accept the fine and then get stopped again i am going to get into a whole world of grief, which would be a much bigger impact than the initial £30. The VSE being an ption and a milltek being an option from standard does help, information wise, just as the info on the idle Db, as there seems to be no stats on 4.5k revs data from manufacturers, so mine was 73 at ide from factory according to the .gov website, and mine was at 77. if there are no stats on the upper rev range, how can they say that i was above them?!

Sorry to hear that dave, hopefully something will turn up for you. From what pepipoo forum came to says to me that they didn't do an accurate test which is good grounds for quashing the penalty. Then you've got the manufacturers db only at idle not 75% rpm etc. I could see it very easily being more effort than it's worth, depends if you get an officier that feels he wants to really push through with the fine. I dont surpose you have the name of the VOSA(?) chap that was with him? I'm guessing he would of been there instructing the officer on how to go about the test and whats legal or not etc.

Glad to see you have not been deported  Sorry you did not get the job and good luck with finding another. I think on top of all the stuff you have to make it a gray area What about telling the police hear is my MOT take it up with them.

Hi all, sorry for the lack of a reply. If this had come up at any time I would have contested it, but with applying for jobs I have had to go through the CRB process, which looks at ANY pending course cases, so I felt it better to bend over and take the pain on this one. I had 30 days to pay the find and I paid it on friday over the phone just in case I forgot. It seems that there are a hell of a lot of patrol cars around here at the moment looking to pull anyone and anything for whatever they can on the easy hits. I am annoyed by it still however and want clarifications on the laws.

I am working, however, to build in a reconator and to modify the tail pipe design to reduce the overall noise, and maybe some screw in cans.

Disappointed, was looking forward to you coming back saying the police had bottled it (like they did with me ) Now you WILL have to spend loads to lower the noise level. I think your mad you had absolutely nothing to loose . Good luck with the baffles or whatever .Keep us updated and if you find out any more on the gray area surrounding the tests let us know.

no the problem was that i did have something to loose. if they then replied with "we are taking you to court" this would then flag up on the type of CRB check that i have to go through as a teacher. there are NO "spent" convictions and any course case of any kind will show up. so i was somewhat screwed.

You could have just paid up if they decided to go to court before the summons. They asked me to pay twice before dropping the case.

Anyway its history lets hope they leave you alone now

Sadly not in my level of CRB that would have flagged up as a pending course case :(

Having worked with kids I can confirm that the CRM check is mentally thorough. You did the right thing Dave.

We do full crb disclosures at work. If anything shows up then we speak with the potential employer to give them a chance to explain the circumstance. I can see that you did the right thing for your position though dave. Lets see if anything happens when I get my new system fitted :ninja:
