This boils my p*ss. So you get fined but without knowing that this is an issue? No pre warning go sort it out type message? Did anyone know about this?

to be honest a producer and having to correct the noise levels within 30 days and prove that it is sorted would have caused me a lot more grief.

I get that but just to screw someone over with no warning or opportunity to change is a fcuking liberty

However, as I assume that their system was calibrated properly and used properly (background noise was noted on the form as 64db), i thought 97 was pretty good for a 2.5" on an SC with the system I am running.

What pisses me off is jobsworth traffc cops. Not all obviously, but why tax the working man when there are plenty of people out there with no insurace, tax etc and people committing genuine crimes scum everywhere and they take the easy option and pull over someone in a nice car and find any obscure reason to fleece them

its because if they pick on the decent man for an offence,no matter how trivial, they are guaranteed to get result they want which is a conviction ie crime commited, crime solved, good for the figures. If they were to try to convict the true criminals more often than not the cases are never closed due to many reasons(think pikeys and asians)

they are reasonably accurate on the iphone but only rated to 100db because of the microphone... Not sure about android, but the reading that i got off my exhaust from my phone are pretty much what the officer noted them as being.

Can you not appeal against this or at least find out more info - i.e what, exactly, is this max db output for a VX220?? I would take a trip down the local nick to ask the traffic section for an explanation. FFS, if the OEM db level is not public knowledge - ie stated on the V5 document - how the hell are you able to safely keep within it? A Kwik-Fit non-OEM pattern exhaust may take you over.....

Surely if they fined you for being over the factory limit, then they had the factory readings to compare it to?

I have a copy of the officers card and his direct phone number and email address, so I will be asking questions and will make an appointment. And as you say (which is my biggest upset) is HOW am i supposed to know what the car was from standard, what is exceptable wear and tear, i.e. exhausts get louder. And where the word "guideline" becomes a law that i have broken.

feel for you dave, makes me think twice about getting a new exhaust system now.... as they have given you the fine for being over the OEM noise level that would mean they have the figure so should be able to give you it as proof that you where indeed over. I'd be less than impressed if they pulled me over for something like that. edit too slow there! haha definitely go down and ask questions

noting tha tyou are from Suffolk, i would be careful out there.

Out of interest... what system are you running and what is your level of tune? it would be great to get a frame of reference from a standard car... if there is a standard VX left in the country!

I commute on the A14 everyday, never see a cop car during rush hour. all too busy hiding in the little villages so they dont have to do 'work' Mines very standard still, only air filter currently. However looking at going further down the tune route this year with 2.5" 2bular and some other small bits before going s/c or itb in year or so... so my vx should be pretty much oem noise levels still

A standard TVR is LOUD! surely that would be over their "guidlines" straight out the factory?

ETA: just found out a standard tuscan is 97dbs.

So is it basically - your car must be under 90db unless it came louder from the factory, then it must not be more than that figure?
