Pretty sure I know the answer but just looking for confirmation.
i went to remove the battery this morning, it's totally goosed and not even registering on the trickle charger as being connected, and managed to get the 'almost flat' bolt at the top of the bracket off, one of the lower ones came out relatively easy but the other is just turning. I assume the captive nut has loosened from the chassis and the head of the bolt will need to be ground off?

Yep. You might be able to wedge a flat blade screwdriver behind the bracket to add a bit of pressure to the rivnut, which might allow you to undo it. Didn't work for me, so Dremel came out and I then drilled the remains out and replaced the rivnut.

I two had this problem last week. In the end i butchered the old bracket to get the battery out and purchased a new bracket. However i retained the old bolt and modified the new bracket to slide over the bolt and used the other two as normall. Job done
There where a few brackets on ebay last week and atomx may still have one, if you go down the route that i did.

'Dremelled' the spinning bolt out and once the battery was out I checked the voltage. It was reading 4.9v but dropping and that was only the multimeter connected. Put the charger on it, it needs to have 2v to be able to attempt recovery. After a day charging and up to 12.7v the charger was showing an error code. This code refers to an 'Internal Open Cell' so although it seems to be taking a charge I think it will be just as well to change it for a new battery.
