Seriously? A lotus main dealer for a service on a 9 year old vauxhall? Are you mental? Seriously though, just hear me out! Many moons ago, Murrays had an appalling reputation, and this lead most of thecustomers to abandon ship and start using specialists like SLS and SPS. However anyone who's on scottish elises will know that both places, whilst cheap, have a somewhat variable reputation for quality. Id always used SLS and thought they were ok, but recent changes in personnel in Murrays seem to be making a huge difference so i thought i'd give them a try. Theres a 24 page thread on SE of people saying good things....so what's the worst that can happen? ;) Well im converted! I've been having braking issues with the VX and the car just hasn't been feeling right, so i thought I'd give craig and the guys a chance to work their magic. After a few friendly emails and phone calls a pretty competitive service price was agreed with a promise to look after me on the brake investigation. So I dropped the car off on the Saturday and awaited "the phone call" on Monday. The phone call came and was delivered with good humour and honesty - the brakes were the least of my issues it would appear! Craig was understanding and offered advice on where i could source parts and what my options were. Although Craig prefers new kit he was more happy for me to source second hand parts if required. We then agreed on a stupidly low price to fit the new stuff (suspension, hub, handbrake cable, drop links) and give the brakes a good clear out. Picked up the car yesterday and it was immaculately clean, ive got a huge print out of all the work that was carried out as well as a note of what might be needed in the next few months. The most impressive thing is that the price hasnt budged one bit but i keep noticing little things that have been done on the car. The boot lid now sits flush, the bit of the brake discs that goes rusty is now painted etc etc etc. So overall the bill was larger than i was initially expecting (indeed larger than ive ever paid for the vx) but most of the bill was parts and i feel like it was proper value for money. You can't knock the glow of satisfaction from knowing you car has been checked with a fine tooth comb. Kept informed all the way through the process and, initial phone call apart, there were no shocks along the way. So it's a huge thank you from me. I'll definitely be back

I took my VXT for a service there a couple of years ago and was not too impressed. Their attention to detail was a lot better than some other places the car has been to, but wasnt bowled over by how cheap it was... When they changed the timing belt, one of the cams was one tooth out. This left the thing running rough as a bastard on idle. Why the hell they didnt phone me to ask if a 500rpm hunt was normal on my car I dont know. When I went to pick it up the service centre had shut. Had to drop it off the next day again, get another bus back home, get another bus back out there and waste 3 hours of my life. Suffice to say, it didnt go back there again. If there has been a change of personel since, then thats great. Hopefully this will mean that there is a bit more scope as to where to take the VX when it needs some lovin.

Not sure of the exact dates Nicol, but that doesnt sound much like the experience i've had so i'm guessing it's pre-craig. Craig seems keen to do some deals, and says he'd rather have the workshop busy than make a fortune on every car. He mentioned he can probably do good deals in the winter if you dont need your car back immediately too. Finally if you've got an ScottishElise.com user account you get a discount too. Best thing for me is that Craig knows im busy during the day and only called for really important questions - everything else was done over email which is a great bonus for me.

As a few of you know, based on Donkey's recommendation I've been along to MMC a few times getting things sorted on my car and have subsequently sent a few others there as well. :poke: Recently after my ECU went pop and I replaced it with an Astra one I needed to get it sorted out. There was no way that I was letting Vauxhall near it without supervision so I put it into Craig at MMC to have a bash at it. Turns out they couldn't do anything with it, but had a few friends in the vauxhall garage up the road. So he got it ran up to the garage and stood over a guy who pressed some buttons on the tech2 to reprogram it. All done as a favour and for providing a bacon roll . So with no charge to me, I dropped off a case of beer in his direction. :drink: After the hoon, there were a few of us having brakes issues. (I think Craig_S was the worst) so I gave Craig a text and asked when I could bring it in to have a look. It's in there at the moment and I've just recieved a phone call. Turns out the fluid is shot and has been boiled multiple times. oops! While I was on the phone he commented that the disks were a little bit rough round the edges so he'd sort that out for me, he'd also clean up the runners to get them running a bit smoother and while he was at it, what colour did I want my calipers painted after he got them cleaned up. That's on top of finding my ABS issue (my dodgy cut-off bullett connectors under the bonnet.) Pikey-tastic! :tt: So the charge was either £60 to refresh and replace the brake fluid or £80 to do the clutch lines as well at the same time. Thought I'd splash out and it should be ready to pick-up after work. He also said that the car was manky (off-road antics at knockhill) so would get it cleaned for me. Great service from Craig who's been trying for a while to get people returning to MMC. The good thing is I can get my car booked in by Email, Text or phonecall. thumbsup Looking forward to getting the car back again. :)

I will agree with all above great service MMC, they replaced my brake fluid and that seems to have stopped the need to use the handbrake at every third corner. I have yet to give the car a good thrash to check all is perfect but the signs are all good. They also fixed my dash panel that was loose, painted the brake disks, valeted the car and gave it a full health check for £60 so can not complain. Probably will go back for my MOT and service in Jan.

So basically if you need anything done, just book it in for a brake fluid change and everything else will be done at the same time!

Looking forward to putting mine in next Wednesday. What he is doing is guaranteeing repeat business. Fair play to them. If its all reasonably priced and the service is great then I can't see why I'd take it anywhere else in this case. Positive service, trustworthy, knowledgable with finesse and a nice Lotus main dealer receipt at the end of it. It's a win for us and the business is a win for them. :)

Exactly Scott. If you speak to Craig he acknowledges that he doesn't make money on every job but he keeps 99.9.% of customers. The other big difference is that he doesn't mind using customer supplied parts. That alone saves you a fortune.

Time is running out! :P I've heard good things about Murray as my friend's sister gets her Exige serviced there, this thread has just backed up what I'd heard about them service/attention to detail-wise. It's great to see the quality being carried on in the VX. I'll certainly be getting them to do the disks, pads and change that black "fluid" that my car is currently sporting, especially if they have no issues with fitting 1144/1155's supplied by me
