Just an idea and I haven't done it yet. The idea came to me when my girlfriends 7yr old lad came to me with a scratched Wii game that now wont read - back when I was in IT a quick polish with Jewellers Rouge would polish most out and you'd have a working CD. Is there a reason not to try this with our headlight lenses? With it being Iron Oxide (just wiki'ed) that's pretty stable and unlikely to have a bad chemical reaction right? My lenses have patches of UV protector missing. I'd rather polish all of it off and try and resray new on. So clever people of VX220.org, am I being a thicko?

When I did mine I found that polish/compound wasnt aggressive enought to get the lacquer off. I used 800 wet and dry, then 1200 and then 2000 and then polished with Meguiars plastic polish. Even after polishing they still werent smooth and shiny and I did think "fcuk!! what have I done" but I gave them 3 coats of Upol Clear #1 which is a UV lacquer and they came up like new.

It was the worry of the dreaded "ohhhhh sh!t, what have I just buggered up" I'm concerned about. Anyone got a smashed up lense I can play with?

You can be quite aggressive with them with regard to the wet and dry, putting the lacquer on transforms them. When I put it on the lenses were still quite misty from the rubbing down but as soon as the lacquer hits them its panic over. The lacquer drys almost as shiny as it is when it goes on too. Get stuck in :P :D
