Guys, I don't mean to disrespect anyone. I'm just very frustrated, I hope you can understand. Also I don''t want to turn this into the Gaz is rubbish thread. I would really like them to turn out to be great and give me a great car. After all I've spent good money on them and saying they are rubbish just casts doubt on mu judgement. It seems no one can give me any advice on how to set them up. It's all very good to keep asking questions and suggesting I take the car to a specialist. But my original post was to see if anyone could advise a procedure for installing these coilovers, considering my car type, the mods I've done and the kit I've bought. The sort of advice I wanted was similar to the guide posted an SELOC for the Gaz golds to be fitted to the Elise but it turns out that the procedure described is not possible as it asks for the coilovers to be fitted upside down and they do not fit this way. I thank you for all your comments. Sorry the thread seems to have turned into a slanging match. I didn't mean that to happen. I' m a fellow VX220 owner who needs help. Please have some compassion. Sol

Sol take Cliffie up on his very kind offer to have a look at them for you! I was not happy with my Nitrons costing nearly 3x Gaz Golds until they were re-sprung and set up correctly - now they are awesome! there is so much more to shocks than bolting them onto the car, you really need to get someone to check everything over and re-set them up, I'll bet that you'll love them then!!! :)

Sol, I have offered to help and I am full of compassion but I can only help those that are willing to listen. I would need to understand more about what you modified to fit 195/17' on the front and you mentioned elise lowering brackets, both are things that may be affecting your set up and ultimately your handling. It is an impossible question to answer on a forum as there are too many variables to consider. It is a case of somebody looking at the car to determine the issue or issues. I doubt the Gaz are to blame, I would suggest (if I may) that either a non knackered set of shocks that (maybe, if iam allowed to say that) have been fitted incorrectly have highlighted or even amplified another area. As I say, impossible to know without looking at the car.

My thought too.

Surely you would have to compress the springs to raise the car to the height Sol is looking for?

Yea, if the mounting was lower than standard the spring will be under more compression as you would need to wind the nut further. The adjuster for the coilovers need to be at the top. There is only one way round they can fit really.

JG and I fitted my GGP within an hour or 2 one afternoon. All fitted, set up and ride height adjusted. It's not difficult, so I suggest if you are struggling that you take Mike up on his offer of help.

Some people you can't help.

I am sure Gaz will react in the same way I have and without a Geo you cannot blame the shocks.

This.

Sorry pushed the wrong button, I didn't mean to re-send Cliffie post. All please forgive me for targeting most of my posts to Cliffie it's just that I see him as an expert on the Gaz coilovers. No disrespect to anyone else. Cliffie, I did appreciate your offer to look at the car but I didn't want to put you to that trouble. I'll put the Gaz back on in the morning, set the ride height to 125 front, 135 rear, bump and rebound from soft 5 clicks rear, 4 clicks front. Hopefully It'll be good enough to get to to work next week. I have a service and MOT booked for Friday. If the car is reasonably drive able I'll ask the service centre to look at the suspension. If it drives really bad I may rob the shocks from my sons VX220 for the MOT. Wish me luck. Sol

I'd suggest taking Cliffie up on his offer.. Failing that, you're only 25 miles from Back on Track in Guildford, or 20 miles from Hoffmans in Henley - both of whom are well respected and would be able to help with the setup.

Oh, and another tip. Run the fronts two clicks harder than the rears. IMHO of course.

Ditch the lowering brackets....zero pre-compression on the springs and you will be circa 125mm on the front

4 clicks from soft and I'm guessing you will be 100% more pleased with it all.
