Hello all, Could I ask a little advice please. I have had my VX since the end of Jan and I have a few niggly problems with the lights. At the moment the front drivers side spot/fog light and the reverse light are not working. For the reverse light:- 1. I have checked the fuse and it's OK 2. I have checked the bulb (visually) and it looks OK. For the front spot:- 1. I checked the fuse and it's OK. Has anyone got any advice on the wiring or whether there are any common faults that I could look for? I have noticed that the front spotlight is loose - i.e. it moves freely when I push it so I have got to bite the bullet and take the front wheel and wheel arch liner off to get to it. Any ideas anybody? Thanks in advance Mark

The reverse light is probably the sensor on the gear box. Cheap as chips off eBay

Reverse light switch for sure (for the reverse light anyway). You'll need to remove it from the gearbox and you may be able to breath some life back into it with WD40 (didn't work for me) or replace it (which is only about £7). Fog light not working? Good. They're worse than useless in fog anyway. But, I guess if you're that bothered about it, you'll need to remove it. Relevant headlight out and with lots of cocking about you can get the bulb holder out of the back of the foglight unit and at least check the bulb and the wiring to it.

You missed it when you came over Matt...my nearside fog was moving as above and the entire lower end of the foglight mounting bracket was non existent.

Completely rusted away to nothing.

I'll get a pic up morrow. it's not pretty. if it's a rusted as mine the jacknuts will need grinding off too :(

I have no fog lights now...as you said they are utterly useless anyway ;)

I saw it. That bracket certainly wasn't the healthiest bit of steel I'd ever seen. :o  When I removed my fog lights, the brackets were in surprisingly good condition with only a couple of spots of bubbling. The bottom fixings were in a mess though and need the tender care of Mr Dremel. :beat:

The correct tools and replacement fixings are a must when doing such jobs ;)

Yep, even now, with just about every nut and bolt on the car replaced during my ownership, I never tackle anything without at least 10 times the number of replacement fixings to hand.

Thanks for the input everybody . Maybe wont worry too much about the front fog. Will have to look at how to access the sensor on the gearbox for the reverse light. I understand that failing reverse light is failed MOT (not that mine is due up soon). thumbsup
