Been offered to try a 2.5" turbo Milltek rear silencer in replacement of my current 2.5" Tullet as I'm looking for something a little quieter for my Sc'd car (not massively, but less on the M'way would be nice). Milltek is generally accepted to be quieter right?

So how did this go?

I´m debating with myself at the moment if I should change my NA Milltek for a Turbo Milltek on my stage 2 s/c......

I've just had a tullet mani and downpipe along with tubby milltek back box fitted.

I'd say its quite loud but in a good way. I doubt I'd get on Bedford with out some kind of DB reducer though.

Off to Bedford Autodrome for them to test drive-by's on Wednesday for my modified Tullet 3.0" system. Anecdotal evidence was it sounded reasonably quiet and actually quieter than a Milltek on another SC car on drive-by on the main straight at Le Mans. Did some rudimentary testing with my sound meter yesterday with the following results:- These were the standard MSA static tests (50cm @ 45 degrees to the tailpipes) Cold idle: 80dB(A) Warm idle: 78/79dB(A) 3500rpm: 91dB(A) 4000rpm: 92dB(A) 4500rpm: 93dB(A) 5000rpm: 93.2dB(A) Tried to replicate Bedford's drive-by type testing which says the car must be at full acceleration over 60mph (or 70mph) at a distance of 20 metres. Could only do it at circa 10 metres but got the following: Wind blowing towards meter: 93.5dB(A) Wind blowing away from meter: 90dB(A) Both of those were foot flat to the floor somewhere north of 6,000rpm in 3rd gear. Other thing to add is I now run an enclosed filter and not a stupid cone filter, which has definitely made a difference. The trip to France was much more bearable and I think the noise in the car is almost louder than it is from the outside now. When I can be arsed to dig around under the car, I'll try one of the other tailpipes I've got and when it finally turns up, a plug in baffle for one of those other tailpipes.

I actually only got this fitted yesterday (Miltek rear silencer bolted right up to Tullet mid-section / cat :)) so haven't had a chance to road test yet. On initial start up, and idle, I'd say its perhaps a little more subdued than the Tullet silencer, but there doesn't seem to be a lot in it! Its certainly clear tis not standard.. It will all depend on whether it removes the drone at constant speed, as to whether I feel its been worth the hassle.. Will report back soon.

What do you want to know? It's loud but not in a bad way Yet to test the DB but I'm not getting on Bedford anytime soon. Bonus is there's a lifetime warranty if it fails under SC power. Then again, if this trumpet effect is what's causing the loud noise. I would want to block one take pipe up, which would void any claim.

Yes actually :) Its actually qute similar to the Tullet I removed.! Whether you view that as a good thing will depend on what you want from an exhaust. Its still a bit quieter than the Tullet, but not massively so (not sure what I was expecting..). Doesn't pop and bang on the overrun anymore (I view that as good), but still drones on the motorway above ~2k rpm (though to my ears not quite as much). No idea on actual sound levels.. If I'd known it was so similar, I probably wouldn't have went to the hassle of changing it.. I think it also depends on what exhaust you have leading up to the silencer itself.

IIRC it's only for the 1st owner and if it was designed for the turbo would most likely not be covered if you weren't using it for that application.

I the first owner and Ian at AMD said I would be fine as its covered up to a 260bhp increase. (stage2 SC). Also that he would get it fixed or replaced under the warranty.

I have been looking for an upgraded exhaust for my Turbo to bring those pops and bangs and a more throaty noise to my VX as well as the the performance gains. On reading the above posts, am I right in thinking a Tullett exhaust could be the way to go?

Well. It sounds like my old NA Milltek will stay on. I think I will try to manufacture a new "Vocky-bend" during winter instead. Thanks a lot for your replies fellows.
