would a longer wheelbase make the car slower to turn in and less responsive?

Aha but if you have loads of power you can easy make up for that on straights.

Simple answer is yes

But the wheelbase/track ratio is possibly more relevant

It's just a question of compromises as always... If you have enough power, what you will loose with the longer wheelbase will be insignificant vs what you will gain on traction/braking and high speed stability. Of course, on a very slow and curvy track you may end up being slower; you'll have to choose what you want the car for. Btw, the VX already has a slightly longer wheelbase than the Elise/Exige

I think i'd scrap the spacer and make a whole new rear subframe. It opens up a lot more engine options as you'll be able to redesign the engine mounts.

:yeahthat:
Not a 'huge' quantity of extra work bearing in mind everything else you need to do to add the spacer.

Would the current chassis to subframe connections have to be re-thought if you switched using a longditudinal engine configuration, as the bolted connection will be acting in shear rather than the current compression / tension?
