OK, had the VX in for a big service today and the nearside rear damper appears to have a slight weep so new suspension is on the cards at some point. My usage will be mostly road with maybe 3-4 trackdays per year. I've ordered a a set of 16/17 TD 1.2's with Toyo R1R's and the car is running stage 2 at approx. 240bhp. Any suggestions? Cheers! Phil

Well it seems like a toss up between keep the original spec or splash a few hundred £ on something a bit more special. Would the 'special' stuff be too much for road use though or is adjustable the way to go? Cheers! Phil

Nitron Street Series work out as the same as a new set of OEM billies from memory.

Low mileage exige bilstens... Mucho cheapness and you won't do better for the spend.

Suspension is always a compromise and personal tastes differ. Anything track optimised will be very hard on the road and vice versa. I find nothing other than standard Billies provides comfort from day to day and fit Nitrons for the track. 'Uprated' (read VXR or Exige Bilsteins) have stiffer springs which are better at keeping the weight of the Turbo rear in check on the track, but you suffer for it on the road. Good luck!

From what I can tell the gaz stuff is on hold at the minute. Can't find any low mileage exige billies for sale at the moment and I'm very tempted by the nitrons so we'll have to see how thing look on payday :) P

I would also have said Gaz Gold. I have used them for years starting with the Nickels and although you hear stories I have been very pleased with then the one time I did have a noisey unit (outside of warrenty) it it was sorted in 2 days

I found the gaz golds rode better than the standard set up. I was using 425f / 550r. Do not forget to factor in the cost of a geo, when changing suspension heights. Steve

I also have 1.2's and R1R's and went straight from OEM to Nitron SS with an uprated Elise parts ARB. As I have not tried other types of suspension I am not fully qualified to pass judgement. But I can say that the soft damping of the shocks gives it a much smoother ride on the road compared with OEM, while the ARB keeps it very flat throught the corners. Once on track, a couple of clicks to stiffen the shocks up and away you go. A few people who have tried lots of variations have driven my car on the road and they have always been very impressed with its comfort and how controlable it is towards the limit. If they were just being nice to my face as to not hurt my feelings I dont know!! Nitron SS (110mm front, 120mm rear), stiffer front ARB, geo by Gugliemi's and you wont go far wrong in my opinion. Zach

Hi Zach, do you run standard damper mounts with or without helper springs to achieve 110/120? What spring rates do you run? Thanks for your help :)

Pinged elise parts and they only have a new set. They recommended nitron or quantum zero. Phil

If you're after Exige or Elise Bilstein's, keep any eye out on SELOC classifieds and eBay
