Now that I've got my harness bar mounted, I need a camera mount for my Drift HD 170. The mounts supplied with the camera are for those that have push bikes! Would like to have a fairly compact mount, with few or stubby clamping leavers, to poke me in the shoulder. Others have found that there is a need for vertical adjustment, as mounting on the bar is not quite high enought for good forward shooting. Any suggestions....need to get it before the National

RAM Mounts without a shadow of doubt. By far the best and most reliable mounts I''ve ever used (and I've used a few).

Thanks guys, both very good brands,However, it seems from their web sites that you really have got to build your camera mount from a series of parts. Really would like to know, from those who have experimented and found the best combination, or can suggest an off the shelf clamp that works well with our cars. Plus I'm just feeling a little lazy today !!

What sort of shot do you want ? and where do you want to rig it on the car ? any thing off the cage and I can let you have a manfroto "k" clamp if you want ? We'd need to work out how to get it to mount your camera but that should be quite simple.

This one is Overkill.
But you could get any of the Big DSLR's on with a super or K or what ever they call it clamp.

Just looked at the camera you have you need to combine the mounting plate that came with it so you can still slide the camera off it's mount and replace it and have the same shot angle If not large jubilee clips can work wonders on tube.

I've been through Manfrotto stuff and even managed to break it, it's also way too bulky for use in a car, unless you specifically need one of their clamps or suction mounts.

1 x Mount V Base with 1" Ball and Straps (RAM-B-108B)
1 x Short Double Socket Arm for 1" Ball (RAM-B-201-A)
1 x 1" Ball Camera Adapter with 1/4"-20 Threaded Stud (RAM-B-237)

I just leave it permanently mounted as it's so unobtrusive and just screw the camera onto the thread as needed. I had Drift and it worked perfectly on there as well.

That seams a simple and eloquent solution. The Manfretto gear indeed seems well made but far too big to fit between the seats. Plus you said it worked well with your Drift.

Yep, it's absolutely rock solid and really low profile. The Drift Stealth I had for a while worked fine with it as it has a normal 1/4" tripod mount on the base. It won't work with the mount in that configuration (well it would with the rotatable lens but I think it would be too low a viewpoint) but it's just a case of rotating the rollbar mount so that it's mounted above the bar and not below. As there are two "balls" in the mount in that guise, you get a huge amount of adjustment to get the perfect positioning. Well worth it.

Broke the threaded section on one of those too and it left it behind in the camera.

Ram parts arrived today, ordered as Techie suggested. Indeed, very well made and robust parts that are just right for the job.

Now working on the original sliding clip that came with the Drift, and mounting it on the RAM ball, so that the mount stays in the same place when removing and mounting the camera.

Just need some National action !!

What diameter will it go up to? My camera is bolted through the centre boxing on the roll cage but would rather it was on the cage tube itself, a bit more out of the way.
