Very much like the 996 GT3 styling (my actual dream car), why did you choose for the front bumper of the 997? Looks good in black though.

Hi Fred. I bought a 996.2 in December last year. I'm glad you're enjoying yours, and you appear have spent a pretty penny on making it look unique. Without hijacking your thread, my ownership hasn't been as pleasurable as yours. In fact it's been completely and utterly ruinous. It was delivered to me with a fucked waterpump and battery so I was £500 before I'd even seen it. Here it is after its first clean

I had the car about a month (although didn't drive it much because of the weather) and then I bought the Pelican Parts IMS bearing as a precaution as it'd only done 85k miles and whilst the engine was apart my mechanic diagnosed a faulty tensioner so it needed new camchains - Engine out job. Whilst it was out and apart I had a few other things changed as a precaution and I picked it up a month and a half later and £3.5k lighter following the rebuild.

I noticed some smoking on start-up and notified the mechanic. He suggested it could be oil in the inlet manifold and to keep an eye on it. I drove it very little as I wasn't 100% confident that it was oil. I had the car back a fortnight when I was making ground on the way to work then 'pooooof' plumes of white smoke out the back. Free wheeled it to work's carpark where it stayed for 2 hours while waiting for the RAC to take it away. Has been diagnosed with suspected piston ring failure. It's gone back to the Porsche specialist who did the rebuild.

And this brings us up to today. It's a fantastic car when it does work, and absolutely scarily ruinous when it doesn't. I had plans for some modifications (lower suspension, different wheels, spats) but that plan has taken a back seat.

I still think I was just unlucky and once it's back (for a 2nd time) it should have had all of the common 996 problems fixed/prevented.

I've been following your thread on PH. Very sad especially after the precautionary cash spent it should have been bulletproof. Are the garage taking any liability for the second failure then or is it genuinely a totally unrelated fault?

Not good to hear P4cks, they are notorious for the IMS Bearing although TBH i didn't think the 3.6 suffered from the issue. I've spent a fair bit on maintenance with mine, key fob, Battery, door lock playing up at the moment, dash lights etc, hope there's no major issues to come as as you've said, when everythings running they are a superb car to drive, it's so comfy and practical over the VX... Although my mates hoping to pick a VX up Sunday and I'm going with him, so who knows how that could pan out lol i Still miss mine.

A veryeye opening read P4cks, sorry to hear of your woes. A lovely looking car, but quite an expensive hobby by all means. Hope it's sorted soon.
