VX220 V.2 Heater



Specifications:

• 660 cubic meters of air an hour
• Retains original three fan speeds, 50 W resistors to prevent resistors burning out
• Galvanised, black powder coated enclosure
• Stainless steel fixings
• Electronic heater control (no more stiff/stuck or broken cables)
• Radiator tested to 2 bar pressure
• Rubber grommets to isolate vibrations from fan
• Mesh to prevent debris ingress

"Electronic heater control" Where is/should this be mounted? Any pictures of this, and/or a v2 unit built into a vx? Are the units speedster compatible?

It's mounted to the underside of the bracket



and uses a cable running into the cabin replacing the metal bike cable design of the original heater unit.

I have a few build pictures but they're on other computers, i will update later

As for speedster compatibility, I think so, I can mount the unit in place of my battery as a quick check, but I will need a willing test mule to confirm this.

It's spray resistant, probably wouldn't cope with complete dunking but then I doubt the motor would either.

It's mounted on the underside of the enclosure when fitted, so forms part of a five sided box with the chassis making up four of the sides and the heater bracket making up the other side. In practice it's exposed to very little.

Example of the blower and bracket fitted, the electronics are mounted on the bracket facing towards the floor. Th radiator assembly then bolts directly on to the fan outlet - this installation approach means that larger parts can be used than if the unit stays as one piece (larger parts = more airflow at a lower noise level, and a deeper radiator for better heat transfer)

Yes. It's the only electronic valve commonly available - the majority of non-automotive specific solenoids are either massive or don't have the flow requirements (typically have a 1 mm opening). Most cars use vacuum operated valves but I was loathe to tap into the servo vacuum hose or try to run a second one.

None at all. It's designed as a bolt in unit using existing mounting points (admittedly more of them - four in total). The potentiometer that replaces the cable heater controller first directly in place and uses the same grommet to exit the dash and the rubber pipes that feed the heater unit stay unaltered.

Davemate and andywilson bought the two pre-production units (made with sample parts rather than the batch I expect on the 23rd), so hopefully you will start to hear something more impartial over the next week or two.

My heating isn't actually that bad (or maybe it's summer and it just feels that way). So the new Deluxe version is a bit too much to justify. I'm going to do some insulating and and play with a couple of budget ideas I've got for now and the money goes to SC fund...

I'm still in. I use mine as a daily and remember what a nightmare the winter season was last year; countless occasions of scraping ice off the inside of the screen. I see you've got them available as of 23rd August but I'm quite far down the list. Any estimation on when I could expect to see one? Cheers again for doing this.
