Im looking at getting some tyres but not sure what to get(ive currently got A048s, so loads of grip). I want as much tyre for my money and to go as wide as i can with no rubbing anywhere and i dont mind cutting the front arches out to accommodate for the 215 size. I was thinking 245/40/17 rear and 215/45/17 front. The tyres ive been looking at are YOKOHAMA AD08 = £570 (its looking like these ones so far as they have more tread new than the v70a) KUMHO V70A =£640 (whats putting me off these is lee has these fitted to his vx and they have rubbed slightly on the rear) FALKEN FK452 = £350 ( Seem to have gotten quite good reviews and you cant go wrong at that price but i reckon they wont have as much grip as the ad08/ v70 AVON ZZ3 = £348 ( Another quite cheap set of tyres with good reviews) If anyone has any more suggestions or any other vx lads on 245/ 215 tyre then sing away and let me know what you've got or any reviews on the tyres i've listed too

You need some NanKang NS2's. They look really sporty see:
Posted Image

They come in 245/40/r17 for the rear (bargain £56.50) and 215/45/r17 (even more bargain £44.95) for the 17" wideboy setup.

They are very competitively priced and got a mighty 67% on tyre review site:

Hope this helps. thumbsup

I'm running on federal RSR tyres, 215 fronts and 225 rears. Not done many miles yet but definitely more grip than the standard re040s Demon tweeks were cheapest at 400 delivered. Alex

Ad08 and V70a are comparable I would imagine although don't know about wear characteristics. Avon ZZ3 were on my wife's Rover 25 and I didn't like them on there. Ran Falken 452 on the TT for a bit. A good mid range tyre, but nothing like AD08s or similar. Can you get Toyo R1Rs in those sizes?

I don't think AD08 is comparable to a V70A. A048 and R888 are much more comparable.

KUMHO V70A =£640 (whats putting me off these is lee has these fitted to his vx and they have rubbed slightly on the rear)

Hi Haggi,

Which part rubbed? If it was the bodywork/clam, then you can shift the clam abou a bit usually and/or grind a bit of it away on the inside. If its the chassis (ie the inside edges), then you can buy hub spacers that can push the wheel outwards, these are relatively cheap and can be machined down to any thinkness for precission fitting.

2 points of advice would be (particularily as you have a powerful VX) to:

i) buy the best rubber and not think about price. Everything goes through the tyres :- braking, accelerating and cornering.
ii) Buy a road tyre for the road if thats your main use, only go to R888s or A048s when you wil principly be using the car on the track, otherwise you will struggle to get them up to temps on the road and they will vary in grip a lot more depending on hot/mild/cold days.

You may find they catch the clam and the tub, mine do. Sizeten runs loads of power and runs 235

If I ever bother moving from the regular Exige sizes, I'll only bother going +1 size - 205 on the front and 235 on the rear.

It was the inside on the chassis/ tub that i could see the tyres had rubbed slightly on hard cornering. Would it not catch on the clam if i got a couple mm spacer fitted.
I am aiming to do a couple of track days a year and the rest is fast road driving, so i was aiming more towards the AD08S for that reason. What would you recommend?

A V70A is a true 'semi slick' racing tyre, the AD08 is a 'fast' road tyre & totally different!

So i take it no one has found the perfect tyre that fits with-out no issues. When the tyres rub does it not knock the car out of its line?

You know my thoughts Luke.... :) You can rule out RSR's if you want 235 rears though, they don't do that size.

Just makes a horrible noise on the clam and will probably end up cracking it. Ended up with a 2mm spacer on the drivers side and no spacer on the pax side. I don't notice the rubbing on the tub but i get loads of rubber build up. I thought id go to 235 when i changed my tyres but ive changed them now and ordered 245 again and probably always will. V70 tyres have a big shoulder on them so maybe the federal rsr wouldn't be as bad as they really slope off on the shoulders. Cliffie new when his tyres were rubbing badly at cadwell. Another problem you will have is because you run the gaz golds you will probably catch on the dampener adjustment knob. Ran with a reasonable ride height, no spacers and a set of nitron 40mm shocks at le mans at the weekend and it only catched the tub, not the shock or the clam. When it was lower it caught the clam. Running -2.5mm camber.

So many options to go for but my sensible head is telling me 235R and 205F.

They are PROPER semi slick aren't they. Hadn't seen any in the flesh. Apologises for my comparison then, it does make the difference between these and the Avons even bigger.

I think as Nev said you need to think what the tyre is going to be mainly used for.
