Hi atm I'm looking at a VX220 Turbo CS4, car looks great, but I did notice it's still uses the standard brakes and discs, is there any problem with that? I thought everyone upgraded the brake system when going with higher bhp. thanks

No problem with that. No need to upgrade the hardware, just the pad compound. If you're going to go out and do 20min sessions on brake unfriendly tracks, then maybe the 4 pot upgrade could be of benefit to reduce fade. It will make no difference to stopping distance though. the alternative is to keep to shorter sessions.

ok nice to hear that, I was afriad of the stopping distance would be a problem with so much power, my last VXT was fitted with 310mm discs and HiSpec RR114-4 Calipers, thats why I was surprised :) thanks edit: saw your edit, now I'm cool :)

power != to stopping requirements.... unless you like to keep one foot flat to the floor on the accelerator while you brake.

I have Mintex 1144 pads, but overall the braking (IMO) is not really good enough for the car and I drive accordingly. I hope to upgrade them at some point.

Hi Nev, it doesnt suprise to hear you say that when you have such a beast, what aspect of the braking is not good enough, is it consistency, fade, locking up? Is that with standard tyres?

IMO good brakes should be able to lock the wheels at approx 100 MPH (if you really need it in an emergency). However, now that I have so much extra grip (both from sticky tyres and wider wheels) the brakes simply aren't up to this. If I remember correctly, I was pulling -1.2g with brakes and +1.4g when accelerating, which leads to a bit of a mind-f*ck, as this is quite the opposite of most cars. I have considered the AP 4 pots, but am worried only having 308mm discs would not provide enough moments of leverage. Ideally I will try and get approx 355mm discs so that whatever calipers I install can really exert more braking force. But we shall see what the gods bring.

I bet you couldn't tell the difference if you were blind folded into two cars, one with 4 pots and one without.

locking the wheels isnt necessarily a sign of good brakes as you could have rather high initial bite pads with skinny or fcuked rubber and get the same result but ultimately have terrible stopping power

Being able to stand on them time and time again from 100mph with the same level of retardation is perhaps a better sign of good stopping power

In my opinion the cheapest mod for have a better brake result is to mount also the 2 pot brakes on the rear. That thelp enough to have a smaller stopping distance. Than if you go on track and you will have still fading you can go for the 4pot on the front.

And i my opinion its one of the worst. Over brakes the rear and makes it very squirmy under braking.

Didn't someone on here do some brake tests between standard and 4 pot? I seem to remember there was about 1m in it...

Yep, didn't like it at all.

It may depend upon driving style.

It's difficult for me to believe, but ok everybody has his own opinion.

Can you explain me which front brakes, pads and discs you have used?

its lists all the tyres make and sizes, and brake discs sizes
