I figured that out. "Easy" still seems relative. :)

I seem to have a random leftover cable. I assume this commons up with the other black cable on the bracket?

Does it matter what coolant i top up with? The old one was pink if that matters. Can I just grab anything from texaco and refill? The old stuff has bits in it.

In short, yes.

Green/blue = inorganic corrosion inhibitor

orange/pink = organic

combine the two and you will silt up the system. Stick to one type and you'll be fine.

Okay, last bit. "use hose clamp on heater end" - what hose clamp?

Finished! Mostly… Seems to be working okay without the hose clamp. I mean - air came out of the vents! That's new.

Need more coolant, will pick that up tomorrow. I'm sure I poured in a lot more than came out, but apparently not.

A few things:

1) The spades seem very loose. I will re-use the old connector, I think.

2) The heat control is the wrong way round - my fault, but I assumed the pins would be at the bottom…

3) The fan control seems fastest on position 1, and slower on 2 and 3. Is something wired in wrong?

4) Should I be concerned that there's no hose clamp? I saw people had trouble attaching the tube to the heater, but I had the opposite issue - no problems attaching to the heater, nightmare attaching the other end…

Other than that, ten minutes in the driveway and hot air came out! AMAZING!

P.S. It's a bit sad when you're chuffed when your heater actually heats something…

So, I've run it for quite a while and not getting hot air. It's not freezing cold but not warm either. Definitely getting air though. Is something not connected right?

Does the dial change the temperature from hot to cold?

Have you checked the pipe connection from the heater to the cabin?

Does the air get hotter when stationary? I've seen some diverter flaps that are so damaged that they just let in air regardless of how much air is coming from the heater

The dial doesn't seem to change anything. There is lots of air so I'm sure the pipe connection is good. The temperature is the same whether moving or stationary.

hmm, could you put the dial in a middle position and touch the top of the silver valve, you should feel it clicking if it's working

It's on the heater unit.  Middle of the pic here, near the spade connectors on the yellow and green wires :

Attached File  P1250885ccc.JPG   34.99KB   12 downloadsFitted the kit having got the old heater out in one piece and no blood spilt. Felt good about it until I switched on and the heater end of the air duct blew off - in spite of the hose clamp.

Sorted that but just as I was about to award myself a beer noticed that the silver diverter valve on the rad in/out pipes was the other way round to that in the guide picture. I fitted it all just as it came to me from Fez, but I am summing that I now need to swap the pipes over? See pic (?45kb max pic size - seems more than small?).

My heater was blowing all cold the other day. This weekend it was blowing all hot. Would this point to the valve being knackered rather than the controller? I'll try the suggestion above to see if I can feel it clicking

It's clicking when the heater dial is set to the mid-point, so I guess that means it's working?

Yes.

How quickly is it clicking? Some of the early ones would click too fast which would overhead the valve and cause it to stop opening or closing.
