Basically as per the title.... I am thinking about changing out my Tubby's FD Ratio from standard to 4.17, i have searched the forum/net and although there as some limited bits of information in relation to Tubby's i cant seem to find exactly what im looking for! Can anyone that has had the mod fitted to their VXT comment/review? Any ideas of how much quicker real world 0-60 and say 30-70mph times change once fitted? And i appreciate that the top end will suffer some what but how much realistically? I mean will the car still make say 140mph with 4.17? Cheers

I thought the general advice is that a 3.95 fd is the most appropriate vxt upgrade as 4.17 is more appropriate for the higher revving n/a

I have, makes a noticeable difference, 5th feels more like being in 4th, can"t really comment on 0 - 60 times. Certainly sharpens up the response in the higher gears, but you won't like it if spending a lot of time on the motorway. As for doing 140 mph......I'm sure there must be a mathematical formula for whether that is possible, you certainly get to 70mph very quickly.

Is there any mod like this that also incorporates a 6 speed box? Long motorway journeys in mine ate already mildly irritating so as good as this mod seems to be, I think it would destroy the ears driving to the track.

Transmission Ratios The final drive ratio is 3.95:1 for NA, 3.63 for VXT. The gear set is a close–ratio type; the transmission ratios are as follows: • 1st gear - 3.58. • 2nd gear - 2.02. • 3rd gear - 1.35. • 4th gear - 0.97. • 5th gear - 0.81. • Reverse - 3.3077 I do like that topspeed on standard ratios and a 7600 redline in 3rd is 115mph, which is great for most circuits

I have the 3.95:1 box from the Zafira and it is great but I agree with Hark that if 6 speed was available I'd be interested as it's a bit annoying at 70 in 5th.

Thanks for the help this far. So from what I can gather these are the following pros & cons to the 4.17 and 3.95:1 4.17 Pros - Faster in gear acceleration - Better ratios for track use 4.17 Cons (VXT) - Increase in gear changes For normal road driving - increase engine "rev" noise inc exhaust noise due to the higher rev range at cruising speeds on the m'way 3.95:1 Pros - Slightly more responsive in gear acceleration - less gear changes on normal road driving - less engine/exhaust noise at normal mway cruising speeds due to slightly lower revs 3.95:1 Cons Can't see any! Now I already have my VXT fully de-cat so it's already LOUD! So the additional noise doesn't bother me too much and I don't see the additional gear changes as being a bad thing. So that being said us there anything really glaring that I'm not considering as to why I should not pick the 4.17 ration over the 3.95:1? Also does anyone know the revised theoretical in gear acceleration figures for the two alternative fd ratios compared to standard across all gears? Finally how big of a job (costly) is changing out the fd gears? Thanks :) -

ask them what the gearbox code is, you need the DZ from the Zafira A GSI turbo, which it could well be as they say it's from a zafira

NEVER tell them which code you want unless you don't care which gearbox you get

I also have the 4.17 final drive in my tubby. It does feel quicker and I guess that's all that matters to me. At 70mph in top gear, the car sits at just over 3k rpm which is not too bad. The car now breaks traction in the dry in 1st and 2nd when the tyres are cold; It makes me chuckle every time : :)

I would much rather have a longer 5th gear for motorway cruising. Which would be best or that, 3.95?

The 3.95 diff gives 70mph @ 3000rpm
