Hi Could someone tell me (or even better take a photo) where the front bonnet release lever should be? At the moment it's floating on the end of the wire somewhere near my feet, which I know isn't right! TIA Graham

If you turn yourself upside down in the passenger footwell you should see an alloy bracket rivetted to the underside of the dash. It clips in there. This bracket gets damaged as does the plastic mount so it might be a bit shakey.

It can undo or even break if someone decides to turn it anti clockwise or pull it towards the rear of the car.

Keep thinking about doing that, but was worried I might restrict it and make it come off again. Struggled to understand what was going on while upside down...

I must have spent best part of an hour upside down trying to get it back on after the garage called me asking how to open the bonnet having 'broken' the latch (probably less, but felt like it). Got claustrophobic and got out. Tried again a couple of hours later and just got lucky and got in place in 2 minutes.

What sort of an idiot designed... :9mm:

Mine came out as the garage pulled it the other way and it came out. I decided to try to put it back and was upside down in the drivers seat footwell when I slipped right into the footwell. At this point I hurried to re attach the release lever and managed to do so. By this point all the blood had rushed to my head and I tried to get out of the car.........big mistake...I was stuck fast. A few beeps on the horn to alert my wife came to no avail. After approx 20 mins I thought I was not going to survive this! The steering wheel was on my chest and every way I turned I couldn't get out. Eventually after tremendous pain to my ribs I managed to wriggle free. Turns out I had cracked my rib. After I confronted my wife who was in the kitchen I asked if she had heard me beeping the horn and she said yes of course dear...I thought you were beeping at the neighbours!!! Anyway after calming down and a few weeks rest I can look at the funny side. Lesson learnt and a tip for anyone trying to attempt it. Remove the roof first and put some cushioning in the footwell like a duvet or something similar. Also tell someone what you are doing. If I hadn't wriggled free I would still be there now!!,

Out of curiosity, is the Elise 'as well designed' as the VX. i.e. same issues, or are these ancillaries specially designed for the Vauxhall ?

The S2 doesn't have a front opening bonnet like ours. You have to unscrew the mesh/vents to get to whats underneath.

Wow! Loving this forum! I stuck up a request, and popped out to Halfords (to fix the battery in the Multipla. Bit of a shock to the system, a diesel Multipla is a *slightly* different driving experience!) and when I came back there were 16 replies! And photos! When it stops raining, I'll stick myself in there upside down and have a butchers. At least I know what I'm aiming at now! thanks! Graham
