Assuming the people with money invested in the lenses will have first refusal once the units are ready to be shipped out?

My intention was to offer a discount to those people which would be greater than the amount they invested in the lenses. This will be build into the crowdfunding as it's difficult to offer them on a first refusal basis in a crowdfunding campaign.

Something like this would work:
http://www.ebay.ie/i...t-/231902050261
Allowing headlights to be mass produced without washer and you could plumb these in as necessary.

Although don't they have to self level as well as wash?

Would self levelling not only apply to cars with the capability to tow?...

Nope. Must have self level too. There is a note on the mot database to allow clio cups to pass as they don't have xenons as standard. I very much doubt it's applicable in this sense as these are merely a home brew not a manufacturer item with type approval.

I think I read somewhere that ECE regulation states that self leveling is only needed when more than 50kg kan be loaded in the rear.

Anyone like reading regulations?  I think it's this one: https://www.unece.or...013/R048r9e.pdf

It's also quite possible that high pressure/flow cleaning is needed when no wipers are used for the headlights and I think wipers are not allowed on plastic lenses.

I can check with the people working with light at work (Volvo Cars R&D)

However I've been running with xenons for a few years now and always passed MOT.

If the case was if more than 50kg can be loaded into the back then we are below that as the maximum boot weight is 50kg ;)

6.2.6.2.1. In the case where a headlamp levelling device is necessary to satisfy the requirements of paragraphs 6.2.6.1.1. and 6.2.6.1.2., the device shall be automatic.

The paragraphs mentioned states angle tolerances in different loading cases eg. curb+2, curb+5 etc where the number is occupants.

So as you can imagine with our stiff suspension and fuel, occupants near center of gravity and maximum trunk load of 50 kg the rake/angle of the car doesn't change much.

Fezzasus, did you look into rtm as well as injection? East coast do this as a service. I know you've done some extensive research but thought it could be cheaper than cf and done to lower volume. Tooling can be in grp as its not baked. Just an idea, I assume you've looked into this. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

6.2.9. Other requirements The requirements of paragraph 5.5.2. shall not apply to dipped-beam headlamps. Dipped-beam headlamps with a light source or LED module( s) producing the principal dipped-beam and having a total objective luminous flux which exceeds 2,000 lumen shall only be installed in conjunction with the installation of headlamp cleaning device( s) according to Regulation No. 45 .

Really strange regulation this, if you have weak lights they can just as well be dirty, but if good light sources are used they have to be cleaned.  :huh:

Cleaning regulation, simply put a standard window washer pump is not up to the job stated below. And an extending washer is needed so the water hits in an angle where it doesn't bounce of the surface. Just checked quickly but couldn't find a loophole for us except keeping  light source below 2000lm.

6. General specifications

6.1. The headlamp cleaner shall be designed and constructed to clean those parts of the light-emitting surface of the headlamps which produce the principal passing beam and, as an option, the driving beam, so that at least the cleaning effect specified in paragraph 7 below is achieved.

6.1.1. In case the passing beam is provided by an adaptive front-lighting system (AFS): the headlamp cleaner shall be designed and constructed to clean those parts of the light-emitting surface of the AFS which need, according to the provisions of paragraph 6.22.9.1. of Regulation No. 48, to be installed with a cleaning device.

6.2. The headlamp cleaner shall be furthermore so designed that:

6.2.1. When parts of the headlamp cleaner in the rest position(s) are on the headlamps' illuminating surface, the photometric values of the headlamps, and of the lamps which are grouped or reciprocally incorporated with the headlamp as submitted for test, measured at the points listed in the appropriate Regulation for which minimum values are specified, shall not be reduced by more than 5 per cent in any normal rest position(s) of those parts, with respect to those measured before installation of the cleaning device; in no case shall these values be less than the values prescribed in the Regulation in question;

6.2.1.1. Paragraph 6.2.1. is not applicable when the headlamp and the parts of the headlamp cleaner referred to in paragraph 6.2.1. form a complete assembly during the approval of the headlamp; 6.2.2. During operation, except in the rest position, the mechanical parts shall not cover more than: 6.2.2.1. 20 per cent of the illuminating surface of a headlamp producing a passing beam; 6.2.2.2. 10 per cent of the illuminating surface of a headlamp producing a driving beam not reciprocally incorporated with a headlamp producing a passing beam; 6.2.3. It is able to operate at all temperatures between -10 °C and +35 °C and to operate satisfactorily at speeds between O and 130 km/h (or the maximum speed of the vehicle if it is below 130 km/h); this shall not apply, however, if the cleaner is blocked by snow or ice; the cleaner shall remain undamaged if exposed to a temperature of -35 °C and of +80 °C respectively for a period of one hour; 6.2.4. In normal use, in spite of the vibration to which it may be subjected, its satisfactory operation continues to be ensured; 6.2.5. It will not be functionally damaged due to water, ice or snow accumulating on it during normal operation of the vehicle, even if the cleaning liquid is frozen; a temporary failure due to freezing or deposit of snow shall not be considered as damage, provided that the device can be made to work again by simple means;

I'm sure I read somewhere that self levelling only applied to cars of a certain type etc. I can't remember where I remember it from but will see if I can find it again. Knowing me I probably dreamt it :lol:

Why do not use LED units? https://www.ebay.de/...tm/351440534629 Available from Hella and BMAC, too. Some friends converted their smart roadsters with such modules. LED does not need a washing system. If you will stay with xenon you can use Mercedes high pressure nozzles from the G-class. They are cheap, small and do not look out so far (black round nozzles at the left side of the picture) http://schawe-cardes...elift_Umbau.jpg

LED units are relatively high cost and low availability compared to the xenons. I haven't seen much of a difference between LED and xenon in terms of output, so i'd prefer to control prices.
