Any scope for selling the component parts ? I quite fancy a different configuration of lamps

No. There's very limited configuration options and the cluster mounting will be specific to the configuration.

So it's Monday. I'm waiting for confirmation from one supplier of current component costs before I start the ball rolling.

Update: I'm not going to Crowdfund this, the short of it is that there's not much profit in the production due to the cost of the clusters and projectors, so I don't have much appetite to lose 10-20 % to whichever croundfunding platform I use.

I've gone ahead and committed to producing one side. Once this is in place and a tangible unit is available to people to demonstrate the quality and improvements over the OEM unit. I'll offr these for purchase with an agreed lead time for the other side. This lead time will be relatively low as all the long lead items (projectors, electronics) will be in stock, it simply makes up the funding gap to mould and produce the other side, and reduces the risk i'm taking if no one wants them (unlikely, but you never know - there have been other products on here that people have raved about until they've become available - transparent hard tops coming to mind).

If anyone's unhappy with this approach and would prefer a different funding mechanism, please say now.

I am still interested. I think you have to do it your way and what feels the best. So I understand you start on one side and any idea what the cost will be for one complete headlight ? Great job so far !

Sh!t. Is that how much they take? Sounds stupid now I think about it but had no idea they filched that kind of money from the pledged funds and kind of just assumed it was a "friendly" way of financing things.

You can't do anything these days without someone wanting a huge cut for doing relatively little , sounds the best way forward for the project .

It was a bit of a surprise to me too, I'm glad the lenses overfunded otherwise it would have been a bit hit.

Crowdfunding is pretty shady when you get into it; most people consider it prepaying but the wording used by Kickstarter essentially says you're donating the money and you may (or may not) get a reward as declared on the website, this gives the startup freedom to move timing ordefinition of the product without the people funding having any recourse. On occasions the fund has simply disappeared.

With the route i'm taking, I hope to remove a lot of this discomfort by demonstrating that the product exists (at least in mirror image) before any money is taken. This guarantees feasibility and simply becomes a purchase with an agreed lead time.

There's still a few costs that haven't been defined (discounts for bulk purchases of components, for example), however they will be significantly under the price Opel and Vauxhall charge.

Hi Tom

I'm very interested in a pair of lenses and the housing, but still a non xenon version for me. I'm sure I'll find a way to mount the non xenon projectors as well maybe I have to make an adaptor.

Great work! I really appreciate your effort!

Do you still have lenses? Would it support you if I buy a pair of lenses now?

Cheers

Harry

Hi Harry,

I think I will be able to supply adaptors to turn the projector into a non-xenon one. The savings will be fairly low though as the ballast doesn't add much value.

I have lenses and sales always help, however if the intent is to combine with the housing, it's probably better to wait.

Really looking forward to seeing these fezz and I have to say I take my hat off to you, the lenses I fitted from you are exceptional and I admire you for taking this project on. I vote for a Fezzasus edition VX with decent lights and a working heater!

One thing you have to remember fez is that original lights are now becoming a chore to find.. And your lights will be the only way of keeping a vx on the road in its original form.. Unlike a transparent hardtop which isnt needed... Your lights will be very much the opposite.. I for one will be buying your lights.
