I think it will be very interesting to see the how the 3 options look like (Full halogen / Halogen+Xenon / LED+Xenon).
If the LED dies it is easy to replace?

The power consumption isn't that high so I'm not too concerned about high temperatures leading to thermal failure.
It wont be too easy to replace, however it is possible. Unlike the original headlights, all the lamp components in these headlights are bolted rather than bonded in place.

Photos as promised. Note: These were all taken at a fixed aperture, ISO and shutter speed, this means the light intensity can be compared across photos.
Comparison of main bean on their own.
halogen (OEM style)
LED
High beam with bixenon (in high beam position)
halogen:
LED:
you'll notice that the xenon high beam is significantly more powerful than either the halogen or LED high beam. This can be seen more evidently when the bixenon is dipped (example uses the halogen).

hmm damn this was hard... go with easy option (bixenon and halogen) or more difficult (if the LED fails) tbh I never use the high beam at all as I barely drive at night...hmm...

LED has very low failure rate, i'd expect it to last 10 years without issue and will cover it for 2 myself.

Bixenon is way more powerful.
Yeah, that's the overwhelming factor, it doesn't matter if you go for halogen or LED as the bixenon main beam is significantly stronger. It comes down to how it looks.

is there a way of changing the orientation of the LED as its mounted? so that it makes the car look a little angry?

I'm afraid not, the packaging is very tight so there's limited mounting locations.

I'm still surprised that people have gone for matt black when I look at these
