Development: I've inspected a damaged headlight Cliffe has kindly donated towards this. So far i've found: 1. Rear cover is vac formed ABS = great news, means it should be relatively cheap to make a plug to create more. 2. Centre part of the casing is injection moulded = expected, high cost to recreate, particularly considering the design is handed, so twice the number of dies. 3. All light units used are available to employ in aftermarket versions. Right now I am concentrating on a xenon version. There is little cost between Halogen and Xenon (basically the price of a ballast). I will update as I have news.

great news, I know if you have xenon lights you need to have washers, but will it be possible not to use washers with the xenon headlights you make?

Fezzasus, if you pull this off it'll be brilliant - no pun intended. Definitely in for a set. I don't think they'd pass the Swiss mot nazi, but I'll just swap with the old set.

They will have washers, the feed for the windscreen will be split and go into the back of the headlight unit.

aha ok, if I understand it correct the washers will be "built-in" in the headlights?

Is it still an MOT fail as the car didn't come from factory with xenons?

no problem with MOT here even though I use HID xenons on my car, many of the MOT men don't know anything about this car :)

I'd be ok with my friendly mot tester. Just others might hit a brick wall if the guidelines aren't met.

It needs to meet three requirements:

1. correct beam pattern (basically projector lenses, not the diffracting type)
2. washers
3. levelling

The latter one is not required for cars with restricted carrying capacity.

This sound very promising and again you have done the deeds. Looking forward to the outcome. Mainly to stick 2 fingers up at Vauxhall! The other is this sort of thing could reduce the number of rotten off cars with little more then headlight damage.

Tell me about it, although i've got the heaters under control a bit more - now down to a batch process. I can actually see the dining room table now.

For these cars to last for another 10 years it needs (filthy rich) people like fezzas to make essential parts.

The mechanical and suspension side is covered by lotus and the Astra graveyard. However lights, clams and body panels need to be pushed and built to a good standard.

Let me be quite clear here, I'm talking about the Swiss Mot guy, not the British. The Swiss guy will fail if the engine is not clean enough never mind aftermarket lights.

Fezzasus, you will be doing them LHD also won't you? If not you should - they go for a fortune second hand.
