I thought I was reasonably well paid until I joined this site and see what you guys can pour into your cars...
This site has a serious potential to p*ss off my bank manager (mrs)

I know how you feel. I too had a big reality check a couple of years back.

Running my tdi golf in the week saves me couple of hundred just in fuel each month. And the golf and vx cost less to tax and insure (by some margin) than the z4m I used to run daily.

Unfortunately in on a flat salary so earn the same if I put in 6 or 60 hours. Which is dangerous as if I put in 6 there are another 54 hours I can be spending :P

Excluding exhaust

Stage 2 3 Harrop
DIY £2.5k £4k £4.5k
Inc labour £3.5 £6k £6.5k

Including exhaust

Stage 2 3 Harrop
DIY £4k £5.5 £6.5k

I am also on Salary, but can add a bit to mine by working away. The trouble is, for what I get, it ends up being a benefit of just £10 per night.
