Do you people not have overdrafts etc? I always wonder about peoples finances when I hear end of the month mentioned. I owe 15k student loan, 7.5k on my Saab, and half of a 180k mortgage so any money I may "have" in my pocket is purely an illusion, but if I wanted to spend 1500quid I could raise that any day of month. To be fair mostly the above refers to people spending 40quid rather than 1500, but I reason thus:- Imagine I have 750 in my current account, next week that may be 2500....but If i took 1500 out of that I'd wind up in overdraft a fortnight later anyway. Just buy the damn things...you know you want to.

But what of the day after that and then the next when a GB that interests you comes up?
:)

Just buy the damn things...you know you want to.

I am also interested, just need a few days to see if i can stretch to it. Its the only reason i am working all weekend.

Cheers for the advice.

I'd like to stay out of credit and pay with the money I have. Simple really.

I'm sure others could find the dollar if borrowing was involved. Finding it with out help, takes a little longer.

And that is exactly how large chunks of the population end up in a financial mess. Sure I could raise the money easily, I could raise it 20 times over and if this were an emergency, I would. But its not and thus it needs to fit in with the bigger picture.

I have a £3k student over draft which I rarely ever use. On my last car I fell in to the trap of using my overdraft and think I'll pay it off, but then something else nice comes up, or another group buy and you never end up clearing it. I got to a point where I was always in my over draft. I want the car resprayed but I've saved for the last 5 months to get it done rather than end up in the same mess. Now ready to get it done over winter and I feel weirdly better for doing it that way.

I could go stage 4/5 and buy the car many times over now, if I really wanted. however that means dipping into my house savings. I've spent the last two years saving that, so it's not getting touched. I never have and never will own a credit card plus don't believe in spending the money I don't have (in theory). If I hadn't of bought an engagement ring I'd put my name down for 3 harrops. Such is life though, and once I get paid the money will be available.

I was of the same opinion about credit cards until I found out that you have a better credit rating by using a credit card and paying it off than if you have stacks of cash in the bank and have never demonstrated paying something off.
I now use credit card for everything but pay it off weekly.

Yes, I learnt that when I got my first job (and opened a bank account) that you need to borrow money to be lent money.

Not saying I don't use credit in other forms, just I know a credit card in my hands would be an evil weapon. ;)

Lol - I wasnt trying to advocate debt, more pondering that if you buy something you cant properly afford whats the difference between being in debt this week or at the end of next month instead? I should add that my debt is "good" debt, as the house is worth more than the mortgage, the car is worth more than the outstanding loan and my education is worth more than my remaining student loan ;) I'm a skin-flint by nature - I'd be trying to fit a merc charger or something if it was me. - Hope to hit the stage 4 this winter and I won't have spent £1500 in total. That said... I still want one!!

Straying of topic slightly, but also worth having a credit card for the purchase protetction it gives you when buying goods - if the company goes bust betwene order (and either payment or deposit) then you are insured by the credit card company. Doesn't have to be full amount of the cost either. As such we're using ours a fair bit at the moment paying for house stuff...

Right, back to the group buy then.
