Now that the extradition is stopped, did he deserve to be extradited in the first place? Did his crime really warrant a decade-long legal process? It's a "high profile" case because he has Asperger's and he was looking for information on UFO's. But what if he was looking for tax records or personal medical files - would he still have gone through all this?

What on .org? Sounds a bit unusual but I'm up for it.

So what if he has aspergers! Its not easy to hack in to computers across the globe let alone a US military one! He knew what he was doing! Guilty, guilty, guilty, lock him up!

If the Americans had a brain cell to share they would have hired him years ago. On the other hand you cant expect to hack into 90 US servers and deface intranet pages etc like he did and expect to get away with it. Tricky one as the world now is a totally different place to when the "crimes" were committed. In a way if a trial does ever come he is likely to be judged more harshly now I would think. The mothers comments today were a bit jubilant considering that he is still probably going to be prosecuted and convicted in this country and jailed for quite some time. Interesting that Abu Hamza is already over there on broadly a similar legal precedent, rules changed just after the plane touched down!

Fair play to the guy, they should have hired him or paid him off, end of story, instead of spending thousands on what is effectively nothing now.

I agree. Someone with that talent regardless of illness is worth talking to so it doesn't happen again. He was wrong to it I guess but all that time and money. Seems pointless.

Aspergers isn't a nice thing, similar to ADHD and sometimes it's difficult to relate to things as others do. Someone who was able to do something like that should have been hired though really... oh well, they're the ones missing out.

Shouldn't be extradited. Surprised he wasn't hired as it's an impressive feat (that or America needs to learn to protect itself abit better)

Aspergers comes in many forms and with lots of different 'problems', I personally have a doubt over the whole thing but mainly due to a friend I once had that could not get a job because of his Aspergers syndrome, but 'go out for a night', he had no problems in sociallising, regardless of intoxication levels.

I seriously doubt anything sensitive was internet facing. But regardless of that what he done was illegal whether he has three testicles, a hook for an arm or mentally challenged..he should be prosecuted.

Proof us British are smarter than Americans. The greatest minds in America securely encrypt the Pentagons computers. Our spastics crack them.

I agree that he should stand trial in UK and serve any punishment deemed appropriate. An illness doesn't give immunity against prosecution. I feel much of this is driven by the US sheer embarrassment by which someone like McKinnon could get access to these systems. I am sure I read somewhere that he said many servers he accessed still had default or simple root passwords!!!
