So can someone explain what a screamer pipe is and what it's for/does?

When the waste gate opens to stop the turbo over boosting the gas usually just goes into the main exhaust..... A screamer pipe vents the waste gate to the atmosphere making lots and lots of noise when higher up the rev range.

I'm guessing no one knows the answer to my q's then?

I don't think the VX packaging lends itself to a screamer pipe, I imagine there would be melted bodywork ahoy!

Ive heard that Screamer pipes can keep the turbo spinning a little longer which allows you to get back on the throttle quicker which helps eliminate turbo lag. They are very loud and sound like a jet taking of lol

So does it have a legitimate use/benefit or is it just for noise/effect?

Its just what I've heard not sure if there's any proof in it,as you say unless your going for a lot of hp not sure if it would make any difference, I personally just like the sound of them :)

I had an MR2 previously that ran a screamer pipe off a GT3071r / Tial wastegate. I never bought it, just came with the car :D It doesn't really sound like a jet, just that you've developed a really big boost leak... They also shoot flames which is obviously a bad in a car made of flammable stuff and where heat can be an issue. Amy, some MR2 people have them directed out the side engine bay intake, but I don't think that's do able with a VX, as the chassis member is alot bigger, so no space. Oh and it kinda destroy the point in the intake / ear! You could have one going out the engine lid

They do sound nice and I agree with you but IMO I wouldn't have one on a VX.
