not sure tbh? Chris said it was about as good as he could get it, assume its probably more TB related than ECU? as said not a problem anyway as it's not a 'daily drive' and letting a high power engine idle for a few min to let the oil circulate and gently warm up is good practice IMHO
I entirely disagree - I've always been led to believe idling is the worst situation a cold engine can be in. Happy to be corrected however...
Idle gives highest cam load. I'm unsure if oil protection is significantly reduced when cold at idle versus hot at high revs, but you cannot argue with the loading and corresponding wear on the valve train.
By it sitting idling temperature will take longer to come up than driving - throughout that time the engine will be running enriched fuelling to keep running. Coupled with an incomplete burn due to low temps and you are leaving deposits throughout the engine, on plugs and in the cat.
Just to add I only know of two setups where it needed a short idle time. A carb'd setup on DHLA 45s, where there was no enrichment/cold start choke setup. That needed 30 seconds at 10% throttle to stop it stalling, then a minute or two of idling to get some cylinder heat before you could drive properly. It was however a fairly tuned engine with a lot of valve overlap and cold plugs.
The second setup was a sprint/hillclimb. That ran very high compression on forged pistons. Due to material density the piston to bore clearance is apparently required to be greater than for cast pistons (IIRC 1.4 times normal). This setup was left to idle for a couple of minutes, I was told to get some heat into the pistons and allow the clearances to close up - if run up from dead cold it would puff some oil smoke, after 2 minutes ran spot on.

Yes, i might be up for that. What's the price on fly by throttle.I really fancy this with the DBW TB

Think that it's only available on N/A s/c cars

Bit of an update on the standalone stuff
Further to all the great stuff this standalone adds to the vx220 the package now retains the full oem canbus so you can reset airbag / connect to ABS etc via obd port
Also running DBW retaining oem pedal fully along with the adjustable pedal option
In gear boost setting via abs filter box (small extra charge) x4 fiters required for ECU with TC option
And switchable map via switch
There was a £100 price increase across all of the ECU range this year but with further development and reduced labour time to install the total cost of install will actually be cheaper. I need to confirm cost to upgrade to the TC option and double check hardware costs and will update later today

nit picking , but its ISO 14230 KWP2000 , on the K line wire. ISO 15765 CAN would be nice to have for fasting tooninga) its CAN*, b.) the VX has no CAN unless youve added it to the car not nit picking (well ok point a was), but dont want people who dont know well enough to ge the wrong end of the stick .

if someone drops the CCP stack into their software then it will be a breeze to do setup, then again most have got the USB interface sussed so there isnt a huge need to push CAN into the aftermarket world as yet. This should change as people are less and less happy with hacking the crap out of their cars to make them faster, but on the flip side all these 'remaps init' are keeping the OEM ECU to also remove the issues of getting 'round' CAN
