I would like to tow my VX to track days with my campervan, as this will allow me to take a second set of wheels, fuel, tools etc and is cheap accomodation :) Unforuntately I do not have room on my drive for a trailer, but I could probably squeeze a dolly on. Has anyone tried towing a VX with dolly and if so what type did you use?

Not an option, I just don't have room for a full sized trailer. I don't see why it would be any less safe than putting any other car on a dolly. My concern is mostly the low height of the VX and the angle it will be at on a dolly, don't want to be scraping the diffuser along the road :) Seem to be a few dollys out there that look to be low enough though.

Remember that if you are using a Dolly you will still need tax on the car you are towing as the wheels are on the road. The only other problem I can see is that the angle may be too much and the rear diffuser may scrape.

Nice. Interesting they went on backwards, would have though better clearance at the rear plus would need lock the steering perfectly straight.

My VX is fully roadworthy and I use it both on and off the track already, just I currently drive it to track days and would like to tow it instead.

Diffuser could always be refitted when you got there, especially if you fitted some quick release style fixings. Would be an added arse though. As you say it's the angle, I'd be worried about a pothole or something and then knackering the clam nearest the floor.

If you put front end on a dolly, the engine would be right at the back far from the pivot point and make it into a big heavy pendulum. The crucial bit when it comes to dollys is the brakes. If unbraked it's plain illegal, if braked it may be legal but will still be horrible to tow compared to a good trailer. If you genuinely cannot get a trailer (can't even buy one and always park the VX on it?) then why not just hire one when needed?

Just store the trailer on a farm somewhere, it's not that expensive. Dollys tend to be quite expensive too.

have you thought about something like this? http://www.easytrail...au/gallery.html if the aussies can get one that fits a mini on it properly (a real mini!) then surely we've got a better one over here that can take a bigger car :P

There are weight restrictions on trailers and cars that tow them. For an unbraked trailer as per your post the max limit includng trailer is 750kg. Above there it must be braked. Also the VX is nearly 6 foot wide which will make it not fit on 99% of small trailers.

I keep my trailer in a caravan park. Costs me £200 a year though :(

Buying a trailer and parking the VX on it might be an option but I don't really fancy driving my VX off a trailer in the morning for the drive into work! Putting it into storage is also an option but as I've just taken the Van out of storage I'd rather not go down that route again as the storage place is some way from my house :( A trailer that comes apart might work, if one that is big enough to carry a VX exists.

Never seen a trailer that comes apart....

Best thing Ive done for the VX for track days.

(this was a test photo, as the VX now goes the other way around on the trailer)

My trailer folds up Mark. The hitch folds up and the bit that went under the chassis becomes the stand. Just too narrow for a VX though.

You've all got it wrong, lateral thinking is needed here. Just search the Vauxhall parts bin for a tow bar for the VX and put the campervan on the hook. No worries about the camper grounding. ''Simples'' as the Meerkat says ! chinky chinky
