As I have outlined in my Time Attack plans for next year, I am working with Geary at Elise Parts. He has developed a stand alone ECU with GEMS that is plug and play for any Toyota or Honda powered Elise/Exige which he retails at £1,500 and we talked about adapting it for the NA SC VX220. It may help things along if there is a market for the VX application so, is this something that people on here would be interested in?

I would have thought that most components are very generic so a Bosch sensor plug for water temp etc would fit any engine , same for ETBs

Its all in the harness, everything else its standard. IS the software to calibrate it available to those who purchase the kit or are they tied into having to goto XYZ 'tuners' ?

It would be designed to work with the VX harness thus making it plug and play but mapping would be at any GEMS dealer I would assume.

I would want to know the quality of the ecu. I've seen some aftermarket ecu's where you set the timing figure to XX and it sort of floats around that figure. Motec are one of the ones I know that if you set the timing to a certain figure you get exactly that. From what I remember GEMS is pretty well thought of though.

Assumption being the mutha of all fcuk ups  I know many wouldnt care, but there are those of us out there who know what an engine does/dosent like so will happily calibrate it without the need for being held to ransom by 'dealers'
Also, might (infact WILL) be better to delete the VX harness as its unreliable at best as we all know.

If assume is too weak then yes, it would need to be mapped by a GEMS dealer but there are more than one of those in the UK and the ECU would be completely unlocked unlike the current Z22SE.

Contradiction in terms there... Needs a dealer and completely unlocked. :(
Thats a shame, this could have been an awesome product. At £1500 it makes the Syvecs look a bargain and is 'open' for anyone with a laptop to have a play.

Not sure what the proposed ECU model would be but the calibration software, base maps, etc are all available for download from the GEMS website. So guess, if you're capable, you could DIY the "tune".

Any idea which ecu EM36 or EM40? I suppose they know it's a weird trigger pattern

Dunno. Easy way to check is to put a timing light on it and see if it wanders at all. Motec is the only non-oe one I've seen thats rock stable.

EFI is pretty good in terms of stability. I'd expect motec to be solid for the price they charge lol, then again the GEMS setup isnt exactly budget so again I'd expect it to do what you ask of it

syvecs maps can be locked by the person who does them sounds like the GEMS is the same from Techies post

The answer is I don't know that is why I said assume in my post. If it is a deal breaker then maybe it can be buyer tunable but I for one will not be mapping my own car!

Because thats not the point really....

I know some of the aftermarket PCM's can have their calibrations locked, but most are easy enough to 'crack' and it doesn't stop someone else from calibrating it, just they have to start from scratch.

Likewise. But it would be good if you're not limited to GEMS authorised dealers and free to go to your chosen tunercalibrator (inserted for the Borgman). Which I think you can probably do with the GEMS setup. Obviously, you may be happier with one of their people doing it anyway (and I see track-club are one of the options :) ).

Stuart, isn't this what Rob and his guys at Radical use?
