Hahahaha  already done mine & - I reckon - it does a grand job of (1) hiding bad lenses & inherent condensation (2) protecting - to a certain degree (3) looking cool as f**k! If you're feeling so inclined, here's a link to make a donation: https://www.donate.bt.com/CIN12/ thumbsup

Done a bit of research on this as vaguely interested in the facts. Apparently the "core" (read plasma arc) temperature of HID is around 10,000 Farenheit :o (for comparison, normal filament bulbs is around 5,000F) The surface temparature of the bulb glass for HID is around 750F (for halogen around 1,400F).

So why the double core temp and the half glass temp?

Well. Filament bulbs emits a shag load of wasted energy as Infrared heat, which is very effective at heating up objects in close proximity to the source, hence more of the heat from the core is transferred to the surround areas. HID bulbs produce very little Infrared and don't heat up their surroundings as much. Therefore, it is safe to say that even though the core is twice as hot in an HID bulb, the surrounding area and the running temps that we are interested in here will be lower.

Awesome post! This is the sort of useful info that should be added to the useful thread on fitting HIDS thumbsup

There is probably a perfectly good answer to this, I just can't get to it. Why would you want to reduce the light emitted from a car headlight and then go a try to find a solution such as HiDs to increase it again. Wouldn't it be easier to just not bother with either?

Probably the same reason you have 10 subwoofers and ear plugs in your waggon.

OK, having sparked a style debate (ooops!).... Back to the technical (revealing my lack of knowledge).... H1 = Low Beam (a smaller single filament bulb)... HB5 = Low & Hi Beam (larger double filament bulb in a plastic housing)... Anyone fitted an HB5?... Will this kit fit & work?

Please advise guys... The “glow worms in jam jars” really aren’t cutting the mustard & I need to sort this ASAP.

Cheers. Benzola

PS: If you love chavy fly eye, you’re gonna double love my Burberry wrap! Lol!

Hi Guys. Just a quick update on an old post. I purchased an H1 HID kit from fleabay. 55w 6000k. I didn't go for slim ballast (& pleased I didn't, as single ballast unit easier to mount). Had the kit for AGES... Finally got round to fitting it today. Dead easy & took no more than 20 mins each side. HOWEVER... I was in a real rush (working on the street & it was getting dark).... Christ knows how, but I fitted them into the side lights (rather than main beam dipped - as originally intended)... But... They work a treat! Is anyone else running H1's in side lights? I'm just a tiny bit concerned about melting lenses (side light bulb is closer to convex lens than main). Any thoughts? If general concerns us agrees this not to be a problem, I will oder another H1 kit (for original intended job)... And while I'm in there I'll also do H7 (main beam high) and H3 (fogs).... Now then... Has anyone a recommended wattage for H7's and H3's? Thanks for your continued assistance & kind help. Lincoln Green (my VX) is very near completion & I'll post pics when done. Cheers. Ben.

Oh... If anyone is interested.... I fitted the ballast with that heavy duty double sided number plate foam stuff.... Cleaned both surfaces with panel wash first.... Stuck on so well I'm not even going to bother with zip ties, brackets or rivets! B :-)

???

The side light bulb is completely different bulb to the H1 and not even in the same cluster?

you sure you've fitted it to the side light by mistake?

Really can't see how you've managed that even by mistake???
