The whole point of the pot is to allow an irregular feed from the tank, so use minimal levels in the main tank, but it will only shave 1/100ths from your current time.
Sorry Andrew you're in danger of confusing me further lol. The irregular feed is the cause of fuel starvation though right?
If we're carrying a lot of fuel, but hardly using any, then presumably the only benefit to us at the moment of fitting it would be that we could carry less fuel and not suffer for it. But if like you say, it's not going to make that much difference to our times then it's probably a lot of hassle for minimal gains.

Swirl pot helps eliminates fuel starvation so run less fuel
Benefit of running less fuel would be weight saving, but would the weight saved really make that much difference at this stage in our racing adventures?
The car is still better than us at the moment, so maybe the swirl pot etc could wait until we can't get any more out of the car? i'm just trying to work out how much of a priority it is.

Purpose of the pot is to ensure a constant feed to the engine. Fuel surge in the main tank can cause the main pump to suck air. The much smaller volume of the swirl pot, together with the fact it is overfed (tank pump and engine return supplying it), means that supply to the secondary pump is much more reliable. Not many cars will use more than a litre a lap, so a one litre pot should provide a full lap even if the main tank is dry.
I didn't understand why you fitted one in the first place, to me it is a reliable solution to irregular feed, but unnecessary complication until you have that problem. Many competition cars use aftermarket tanks in the boot, but if you retain the original tank, starvation is unlikely to be a problem until you are nearly empty.
Best solution, half fill the car next time, that will save 20-30 kilos, which is worthwhile.

May be out of Tin Tops. The cost to get my engine up to competitive sort of power for Class D would be in the region of £3k. It's not been the best year at work, so don't want to spend that out now.
My lap times at Brands recently are in the same window as the SaxMax times (so know it's not my driving!), but a bit over the Tin Tops times. Brands isn't a massive power track either, get out on Combe or Silverstone and that gap will open right up.
Thankfully I now have the parts to bring the suspension up to spec (SaxMax runs standard rear torsion bars, way too soft!), a much shorter gearbox (VTR ratios are interstella). If can get them fitted soon, looking at booking a trackday at Brands for 15th December, see if can get the new bits on and how much that improves laptimes.
I used to run a 1.1 gearbox on my 106 VTR for the shorter ratios. Topped out at 110/115, VTS' rev bit higher though.
