So I managed to find a suitably pikey replacement for the VX. Donkey came with me today to look at a car and mananaged to convince me to buy it. I don't think he thought it was a good buy, just that he wanted to laugh at me if I bought it.

Here is my new MX-5HED

Posted Image
(better pictures to follow)

It's the 1.8SE (140bhp) model (wooooooooooo I hear you say) which has some rather choice interior. (stock picture)

Yeah, ok so it looks like a baby has thrown up all over it, and yes that is a wooden steering wheel, but it adds to the charm. B)
The car is a 1999 but only has 49k on the clock and an MOT until 31st October 2013. Not bad considering it only cost me £1500 :tt:

The whole Idea with this car is to have a road-runner for hooning and the odd track/sprint day, but to do it as cheap as humanly possible.

So cheap and nasty performance shocks, remoulds, sh*t sounding cheap exhausts (i wonder if Peco still make the bigbore2?) You get the picture. Might even get round to putting a homebrew turbo on it out of a turbo diesel or something.

The main point in this car is to have fun and not care about the car. If something happens to it then hey…. who cares?

Gonna post a little project thread here if that's ok with people and it gives people the chance to start laying off the biscuit interior and start on the Tan! B)

Anyway.....bring on the insults!!!

Nice car, though not keen on the approach. Treat it well and it will look after you. It will also sell a lot quicker than the vx did if you can show a modicum of care for it ;)

Don't get me wrong, it'll not be treated like a complete shed. If Im driving fast in it I want it to at least be safe, but i'm going to try and prove that you don't have to spend a fortune to have a fun car. It'll mostly be 2nd hand performance part from others I feel.

Make sure you clear out the drainage holes in the sills regularly, the MK2s were really bad for rot.

I was going to post one of those 'no hairdressing equipment left' stickers. I did an image search for it and lots of pictures of MX5's came up. Nice car though. You'll have to get a pretty new dress to match the interior.

I'm not sure I can take the blame for you buying it :D It does look good though, and I'm even warming to the interior! I predict you'll grow quite attached to the wee thing....especially if you thought it was good fun on four different brands of tyres :D/> Funniest bit was on the way home when I'd said "the heater is excellent" and five mins down the road I for a text saying "I'm fcuking roasting!" He then spent the next 50 miles swerving all over the road trying find the elec wing mirror adjusters. Whereas I just pushed the glass when we stopped. Sigh.
