The first "handling improvement"has been made. Thought it felt wallowy at the back end when you push it out of a corner so decided to check the tyre pressures. According to the forums 26-27psi is ideal for mx5s and mine were comically wrong. Front L23 R37 Rear L19 R17 Car feels a bit better already, even through the sleet and standing water on the way home. rallly

Nah, still think the front left dampener is dead or at least almost-dead, but the tyres weren't helping the wallowyness.

Have you changed the ditch finders for tyres that don't have slow punctures yet?

Plan to very shortly. Just finding out what's the perfect balance of still being pikey yet keeping me on the road at speed.
Will get a Geo done at the same time.

Wallowyness, Love it. Not a very common word on the VX site Bob.

Is it above Pikey cash to lower it back to its design hight before they raised it for America,or am I on about the wrong car ?

I think it needs a little bit of fettling before it'll be any good on track to be honest, but it won't stop me trying. I'll be able to give you feedback as soon as Lazy donkey gets around to organising another kames sprint day. :poke: as soon as I've got that under my belt I'll take it up to knock hill for a little blast.

So I've not had much chance to do anything or drive the car much since I got it because of this shitty weather. Managed to run a wet sponge over it yesterday and drove it first time with the roof down. The roof is stiff as hell at the moment and I had to lean on it a bit to get it down properly but I'll soon change that because when the rain stops it won't be up at all. I'm accumulating bits and pieces like nobody's business but don't have the weather to do anything with them. Got a hold of an under gearbox cover for 15 delivered which is good considering they are meant to be over 100 quid new. Bring on the good weather! :rally: P.s. I can confirm its really easy to get the tail out and do doughnuts in an mx5.

Lad at work did a 180 coming out of Tescos roundabout in the wet near us  says he was hardly moving. God knows what tyres he has on(must have a look) as the VX never moves on it.

Will you try it in the snow Bob ? I will have to give it a go in the VX this year unless it gets deep. should be fun

We had a few hours yesterday without rain, felt strange

Fields near us you could boat on no problem and the road into Southport was flooded on one sine for over half a mile the other day.

Walking to my Mums and the main road was flowing like a river on one side, all the cars slowed right down and moved over. Then some bastard saw me and booted it ,pulled into the water and fcuking drowned me in a wave over two foot high. He pulled onto the estate and I ran after the twat to drag him out of his car but he had gone, maybe just as well

You don't need snow to provolk it in its current format. Cracked rubber on tyre rubber that's gone hard it not difficult to shift. :)/> Just sent John a mail and told him what tyres to get in and when's good to book us in Scott. thumbsup/> Small break in the rain there so managed to get out to change the air filter, plugs and ht leads. Everything went very straight forward. Had a chance to have a look at the brakes in daylight too. I've got pads already, but the discs look absolutely shagged so I'll need to get some replacements. :rolleyes:/> by the looks of it pagid ones are 17 each at the rear and 26 for the fronts so not a huge amount.

Was playing with some pistons ,valves and rings which may upgrade the MX Bob

Now that was an engine. Only about 20ft long. While down for a service the painters painted the arms of the governors and when they started it it went to max revs and blew up.Crank and rods came through the casing.I was sifting through the bits in work,it was awesome.

Maybe to powerful for your car

Project Pikey Road-Runner! That's a bit nasty about my favourite car! I'm sorry I didn't see your intro to mx5nutz. Looks like you have a VS Model. Is it a import model and does it have a 6 speed box? As mentioned by James (hms motorsport) don't waste your time on rokkor or whatever coil overs as unless your just after a stanced look they won't work for you. Gaz Gold Pro, P5 shocks all get a good review. I would also recommend Wheels in Motion for their set up as gets good reviews and made a big difference when done to my twin weber 45 carb'd mx5. Enjoy the car, you may even warm to it! I sold my last vx220 turbo over my mx5 turbo (though it is 250bhp with shed load of torque) as like you have already mentioned they are cheap for parts and everything else. I also sold recently my supercharged roadster to buy back my weber carb'd roadster mentioned above running 200bhp which was dead stock and was a nice car as a street sleeper, which is now enjoying a life on track with the n I'm after another vx220 turbo so back on here though it wont replace my mx5 turbo!

The 5 is a perfectly capable car, but just not as focussed in its current format. I've already dismissed the cheapo suspension route and am currently looking at some decent 2nd hand stuff for much cheapness. thumbsup Its an SE model, which is a UK edition. It just looks like an import with the wood and the garish interior. For me, this is a cheap project. As with any car, you can spend a fortune and get it to its absolute pinnicle , but that's not what I'm doing here. I'm trying to have fun on a budget. I reckon this is the perfect car to do it with because performance parts are readily available both new and second hand. After the shocks are sorted then next on the list is the sway bars. thumbsup. Make it stop, make it handle, make it go.

Nice one. As you say it's easy to go mad on any car to get it to it's optimum. On a budget you can have some fun with a mx5 on track. Reference coilovers if your still looking and any after market or maintenance part you need (if you have heard or tried them already) try Andrew at Autolink. These guys get quite a few fresh imports in firm Japan for breaking. They often have decent secondhand coilovers for sensible secondhand prices. You already know about nutz for a source of parts but if your on Facebook (and not heard of it) it's worth signing up to mx5 autojumble as there is lots of people selling various secondhand maintenance and performance parts on there. I got some light weight SSR wheels from there at a good price recently. There was also a chap doing some under bracing on there for too much money not so long ago too. I be interested to see how you get on with your project and have to look on nutz and see if you have a project thread.
