The old romantic in me has bought my wife a HID conversion kit for her BMW E61 for Christmas. Anyone out there got any experience of fitting these, I'm particularly interested in how the on board computer will handle the conversion and whether it will leave any messages.

I don't think it will leave any messages? What makes you say that?

If it's a CAN compatible kit and has the soft start ballasts (or whatever it is that's needed to fool the ECU), they should be fine. I went through a couple of different pikey kits on a previous Audi which all gave various errors, until I finally decided to buy a decent kit that worked straight away

Only if I didn't fit them for her, like all the other things scattered around the house waiting for me to "get a minute or two".

It is a canbus kit so I'm guessing its the right bit of kit. I will add more once it's fitted.

It is a canbus kit so I'm guessing its the right bit of kit. I will add more once Mrs Ayton has frozen herself solid fitting them.

All fitted now. They look very good and make the road ahead much clearer at night. However. Left one flickered a d went out twice last night. I swapped the ballasts over but that made no difference. Today I am going to swap the bulbs over to see if its them. Any other thoughts or suggestions as to what might be causing this?
