It's butyl tape if that helps.

I have to refit one of my front lenses, but will need to remove it again in the future to fit fezzasus lenses. Is there anything anyone could recommend I refit and reseal it with, that will come off again without more fuss than oem - but not fly off on its own? If the answer is 3m vhb or whatever, is there somewhere eg b&q (they don't have it) can get it from rather than mail order? Cheers Guy

Not done it myself but am about to reseal a spare light (or two  ) using Sikaflex -221 which i bought from eurocarparts for about £12 a tube. Tiger seal will do the trick though.

Sika did the job for me, unfortunately didn't seal my thumb from the gash I put in it while a nosey neighbour was trying to tell me the knife looked sharp. No 5hit Sherlock, now fcuk off! went through my mind. But for a change I held back.

Contact James.a Jules. He's just done his using butyl tape. Not sure if he used any sealant around the edges.

The butyl "tape" (certainly what I got from Elise Parts 6/7 years ago) was too thick and too wide for a decent fit, so make sure you stretch it a bit to make a thinner bead before joining the lens to the body. When I did it, once the butyl was in place, I warmed it up with a heat gun to make it a bit stickier before clamping the lens to the body with some little clamps. Left it clamped together like that for probably getting on for 48 hours and also then ran a bead of Loctite Superflex black silicone around the edges to make sure I'd covered any potential gaps. Never leaked again after that unlike the brand new box fresh lights I put on a few years back to replace them. I should probably re-do the originals, now there are replacement lenses available. P.S. I've also seen advice to stick the whole light back in the oven once you've stuck the two halves together to make sure the butyl fills any voids but that was a risk too far for me, on all plastic lights.

James just sent me a great little PM which is certainly food for thought :D

Interesting both of you mention the tape being too thick/wide for the job though!
