[Dunk]

Having been inspired by nicollow's top metallic enhancements, I'm ready to get my black on!

As per his post, it seems sensible to offer up the chance to go in with me if anyone's considering having their's done in the same finish (matt/satin black - mibiz Nicol will keep me tight here?)

I'm looking to do it in the next week or two but will only contact Mervin once I know if anyone else is interested so I can get him to quote on the right number of items.

Anyone else in? Mine will be leaving and (hopefully) returning to Edinburgh but I would expect it shouldn't be too much of a logistical issue to organise parts from elsewhere to arrive in one place, be batched and then returned to whence they came.

I'll only approach the company for a price once I've got an idea of the number of parts we'll want anodised. However, on nicollow's thread, including postage and VAT (with the risk of man-maths) it looks like he paid around £70 for everything (linky). As he states, it's performed in a batch process, so there could be some economies of scale. Since postage/sorting logistics may be a bit of a pain for them, any batch saving could be wiped out.


Since it seems like there's a bit of interest, let's do this semi-properly. Chris/Rick/Matt, just update and add any parts I've not got down.

Hmmm. Starter button... Not sure about that. Are you talking about the bezel and the button disc? From the site of the people Nicol used, it looks like suspending the starter button disc may be a problem...but what do I know?

On that subject, I suggest anyone who wants anything Nicol's not had done should check to ensure it's physically possible to anodise and can be dismantled and reassembled okay.

Starter button will be a no no I recon... I removed everything I ruddy could, so if there is anything I missed I'll be a bit p!ssed off

Oh and a wee tip, if you are doing the heater controls, best to remove the pastic inserts. I did this with a simple woodscrew. As you tighten it, it pulls the plastic mouting away from the alloy part. Simples...

Does Anodising cover scratches or will a scratched component end up an Anodised scratched one?

From the company's FAQ page, you'd get an anodised scratch. Option would be to polish out the scratch and then get it done. I imagine it'll depend on how bad the scratch is.

I'd also guess that a matt finish like Nicol's will make minor surface blemishes less noticeable. Just a guess though.

I'd give the Mansfield Anodisers a call on 01623 627700 to ask about specifics. Nicol says to speak to Mervin.

As far as I know though, anodising just works on aluminium and alloy wheels will be a blend of a number of metals to get the mix of strength/lightness/flexibility needed (hence "alloy") and I'd guess no.
