Hi folks, I can't find the answer to these questions:- 1) With Ntrs fitted my front wheels are closer to the arches than when the car is sat on the ground at std ride. When I let the jack down they barely move and this still results in 100mm ride height which is a bit low. And ideas why this might be? Is this something to do with brackets? 2) How in gods name do I get the springs off? Can you just not do it yourself? This would be insane!!

Not sure I understand. If you have NTRs then why can't you just rotate the collar to the desired ride height ?

You do have the VX specific types?

1> Remove from car
2> Loose off the upper spring seat until spring is free from bottom seat
3> slide bottom seat upward a little, exposing snap ring
4> Use pliers to open up snap ring and remove from seat base
5> Slide lower spring seat over base (will go over now that snap ring is removed)
6> Remove spring from damper

Refitting is reverse ;)

Bye, Arno.

Because the car is 'low' even when its off the ground. They are off an Elise. Thanks for the info. Looks like a spring compressor job though as with collar fully released the spring still partially retains the bottom seat. Will find out specs from s/n tomorrow.

so if you wind the top platform fully to the end of the thread, you still have some spring preload? if you can , the bottom end of the spring, the adjuster clicker end , you move the bump stop up the rod, and the spring bottom platform moves up with the spring, exposing a ring, just use your finger nail to open up the ring, then the whole assembly can be dropped out the bottom.

And some from the forum (for sale 2009) http://www.vx220.org...-sport-dampers/

They do look the same.

(Other than shineyness - Steve, not preload, just you cant get the platform far enough up the rod to see whats underneeth it.

as described above, the open length of the damper , plus spring platform wound to its extent should be enough for the spring to be open, and allow you to slide bottom perch towards the damper body to expose a ring

Lol. I assure you it can't be done easily on my shockers without compressors - I have compressors however. I don't need to swap the springs anyway, and the things are on the car now - that part was curiosity. Mostly Im unsure that even wound right up I'd get a 120mm front ride. Will have an experiment at weekend. Forgot to call them!

 John it ca be mate, I think you're sucking the wrong tit entirely!!

Do this

Posted Image

The platform near the lowest arrow......

Unwind it as far as it will go.

Then

push the spring all the way down too.

Then the platform near the top arrow will move down too. It may need a little persuading. When this moves down it will expse a snap ring.

Remove snap ring

Then move the collar UP and off the shock.

The spring will then come UP off the shock too

This is the most helpful people have ever been in one of my car problem threads...and I seem totally unable to explain that I understand! I had it at post three (thanks Arno). The rears will be a piece of p*ss, but they were already fitted when I had a go at getting a spring off. The front - I did as you explain, I just couldn't get the seat up quite enough to see what retained it underneeth. I suspect my shockers are a bit short! But I guess I'll see. I'm sitting here chuckling!
