Do we think the ECU will eventually self compensate for all the factors which effect it, Or should we have different maps for different conditions??

The ECU will compensate exactly the same way the OEM one will, so you only need one map.

Just plenty of driving might be the answer

Correct, the short term fuel trim manages change in fuelling due to weather conditions, the overall map doesn't need to change much.

The long and short fuel trims are there to compensate for weather conditions. Unfortunately it is quite crude due to the low number of cells. I don't think it is nesassery to have a map for different weather conditions but if you map in average conditions the trims will have less work to do.

Will it be quicker to let the ECU self adjust or will it be better to remap

2.6.1.2 released.

Different way of selecting injectors, and fuel pressure selection.

(have not tried it myself yet)

is static fuel pressure

with ignition on only

or

with car switched on, with tick over

Also thinking of going the obdtuner way after 2 years with a CS mapping. The flamethrower function was cool at first, but it's getting old. Also the high fuel usage... Are these things that can be 'fixed' with this mapping?

I would say fuel usage is down to how hard you drive the car, My car is a flame thrower since I have removed Cat even with this software.

Okay, also no cat here as the car is only used on track for now. But I'm getting the car back on the road, so looks like I will also need to order a tullet cat section then :(

Im getting a bit fed up with the mahoosive flat spot in the middle of the rev range when the cars cold. Would the Dutch software sort this out? ;)

Oh my yes, I don't have any flat spot, plus you can adjust throttle pedal position relative to throttle body position to map out any flat spot anyway.

Didnt realise you were running this software Tom... Im getting interested in trying this out, dunno if I can bring myself to trawl the near 40 pages of posts about it though!! :P   Is it easy to get to grips with? I presume I need to send my ECU off to Holland as I read earlier in the thread?

I thought you were selling up Lol Keep your ECU from Courtney's and buy a second hand ECU and peter ( will put your codes on to new second hand ECU ) that way you still have your Courtney map which you possibly could sell on to recoup some of the money

Yeah it's easy to use, very well written software. Basic approach is this; send the ECU off with details of your current hardware (pulley size, injector type and so on) you'll get the ECU back with a base map which should run rich. Connect a laptop up, press read from ecu to pc, and then enter fuel lean mode. Drive it a couple of miles and look at the learnt fuel tabs, if they are reducing the fuelling (so applying a negative trim) then you are safe to continue with the fuel learn mode, drive around for about 90 minutes trying to get the EML light to stay out under all driving conditions, this means its learnt enough to trim the fuel across a wide range of driving conditions (if you miss a few don't worry, it can extrapolate). Process the measurements, program the ECU. Done Everything else lets you tinker with it, for example you can change the temp the fans kick in, you can apply a speed limiter to ensure you don't go faster than your tyres can handle, change the rev limit, change the throttle response and so on.

this is all good, providing you have a sealed tight manifold and every component is in top condition , otherwise if your fuel trim says +7% then you should ask the question why is my fuel burn wrong

Exactly, which is why you should only continue if it's trimming fuel rather than adding it. My build was fine to start with, but I understand peter is very good at supporting people mapping, including examining logs to identify any issues, for example he managed to identify that nicks fans on the charge cooler were mounted backwards as he saw a rise in temperature when the fans came on, all from the logs.

I have this problem when I first start as I basically have a push fit 4-1 manifold into the down pipe so to start with until I get the exhaust nice and hot it showed an air leak in the exhaust, does sort itself out but had me wondering for a while

Im always (thinking) of selling, but dont mind sinking a few hundered quid in it to get it running properly, especially if I can sell my other ECU on :P  So can I get any old 2.2 N/A ECU from eBay then, do I need to worry about the imobiliser?
