Can't remember whether they were 7" or 8" but Archos and Acer (with the W series tablets) both did "small" Windows 7 tablets. They should be pretty cheap on eBay these days. That said, their older Windows 8 based tablets should be available cheaply too. Your big problem is that Windows 7 is near unusable in 7". It's touch support is basic at best and it doesn't scale apps (Windows 8/8.1 isn't much better in that respect either). It really needs a stylus for input, especially when you're stabbing at tray icons and OBDTuner's spreadsheet type layout means it's hard work to see/use and even worse once Windows pops up a virtual keyboard eating up another 50% of the screen. Conversely, OP-COM due to it's really simple interface with massive buttons works almost perfectly.

I just blagged three free Dell Venue Pro 8's from our Dell Account manager. Hoping they'll be delivered to my personal tech stockpile today or tomorrow. :D Last time I looked they were available from the Dell Outlet at circa £150 and are effectively brand new.

Afraid not. Only Dell enterprise/business stuff. Can't even get a decent discount on their XPS and Inspiron ranges of lower end home/small business oriented stuff. Had to threaten withholding an order for some replacement kit to tease the tablets out of him.

Mine works fine for me. I haven't done a lot with my car as I've been sorting a problem with my fan coming and a code which is now sorted. So my plan is to get the tablet hardwired into the car but it's hard to find a good brackets that's I can hide the tablet away with.

make a bracket which sits under the dash, cover the inside in the soft part of velcro and then you can just slide it in and out.

I'm no good at making brackets lol. Yeah battery seems good Chill. The only reason I'm wanting to hardwire is because I don't have to keep messing with the cig lighter and also no wires everywhere. Anyone know where to start as in hard wiring? I've seen these converters on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/141088797880

The only problem with using a inverter like that is all the extra wires and plugs etc etc and weight Why don't you make it removable so you can charge it up

Easiest way as it sounds like you've already got a cigarette charger lead for it: http://www.ebay.co.u...=item5b03613aab

I could do but the little bit of extra wiring don't bother me to much. I'm just after a clean look and no hassle when I need to use it.

Nick where did you get it for £75

There were loads on flidBay when I linked to the auction for a batch of 5 of them, they go for anywhere from £40 to £100 depending on stupid people are.

If there was a 7 inch version that would work then that would be nice. 10 inch is nice but I think I would prefer 7 inch due to being a bit smaller and easier to fit/hide.

Well, how is it charged now? Via a USB socket? Or via a dedicated power socket? If it's USB that's a simple enough 5v power supply, you just need to know how much current it needs, which should be marked on the existing charger or the the PC itself. Then you can just get a suitably powerful 12v-5v USB power supply from flidBay and away you go. Like this maybe: http://www.ebay.co.u...=item5d4f699cf4 If it has a dedicated power socket, then you're probably looking at something more like a 12v power supply, in which case you'll either need to try an find a matching polarity plug from Maplins or it's like and then wire it up to an ignition switched power source via a fuse, or either use the adapter I linked to or hack apart your existing charger and remove the lighter plug end and connect the wires as before but you need to know whether there is any kind of voltage reduction circuity in the existing lighter lead.

But Nick was talking about the same 10" Novatech tablet that Luke has or I linked to originally.

That looks good. Is it just a case of wiring it off something like the stereo wiring?

I put in an offer and awaiting the reply, 10 inch as a bit better to work with I believe, tray system or just hook it up and leave it on the seat

Yep. With an inline fuse of suitable capacity. Obviously only worth using if you have an existing power lead that terminates in a cigarette lighter plug thingy.
