Hmm, it is odd.  Blowing out the dipstick and high oil consumption definitely sounds like blowby.  I'll have to have a read on the wiseco data sheet.  Total seal rings definitely help with crank case pressures.

ETA: has anyone had some wiseco's out and checked the ring gaps?  I'm wondering if the rings aren't so good.

Think it's also worth mentioning since putting my PCV back on to inlet my oil usage is less Than what it was when open to atmosphere Which o believe was caused by a build up if crank pressure rather than relieving it before it builds up to these levels Dipstick also only blew out on mine when the PCV cam pipe was open to atmosphere not had this issue since re connecting back to inlet

No oil loss when I was on the m62, only started since harrop and software change.

This is why I think it's down to increased vacuume when it's connected to inlet Or Unrelieved crank pressure when it's not connected

Just another thought then...

The cam cover breather has a biiig maze type separator in it.  I wonder if, when on boost, this is proving restrictive causing higher crank case pressures.  When you come off  boost the PCV may get rid of the pressure.  The extra boost of stage 3 or harrop beyond that will just increase the crank case pressure problem.  I wonder if its a combination of piston fit causing crank case pressure and an inadequate breather system.

@ Luke make sure you put a separate filter on if you don't connect to inlet pipe or you will pull shite in to engine

On occasions I've noticed that the dipstick has lifted slightly after running on high revving type tracks. Also on checking the oil the oil level can be up to 150mm over Max, I know this is wrong though. It might seem daft but has anyone thought about putting a breather filter on the dipstick tube just to see if it makes a difference?

I thought about putting a seperate breather somewhere at bottom of engine At the time though it was thought that you need a vacuume for the PCV works @fezzaus does oil expand much ??

approximately 10 % increase over 200 deg. C

No problems here with dip stick when on the M62 or harrop and mine is blocked off.

Have to agree with FLD.. Sounds a lot like crank pressurisation, especially if dipsticks are pushed out. The breather hole in the cam cover on the Z22 is quite small if you compare to other engines.

Honda boys that run big turbo's on the K20 do this sort of thing:

Posted Image

Connection in the top left is the OEM one. Two big vents are added/welded on and all are then routed to a big catchtank which collects the droplets and either breathes to the air (via a filter, smelly) or back to the intake.

Perhaps something similar can be found on US sites/forums with turbo'd or heavily SC'ed LSJ's?

Bye, Arno.

The Z22SE (L61) GM build book also used a wider PCV vent

Mines venting to the atmosphere but there is no smell that everyone seems to talk about, what would this mean for me?
