Coming up ther M40, became aware of strange knocking and rumbling noises over the normal wind noise and radio, and the performance dropped off. I moved over to the left lane, went to touch brakes and realised the pedal was already down further down than normal
Hooked foot up underneath and brought it back up, performance came back, but still has some knocking noises at over 70 mph. All appears to be working although the pedal seems to go down further.
Is there a spring that should pull it back up or is it something more fundamental, Am I likely to have done lasting damage?
Thanks
Tony

Have you checked your pads?
May have lost the braking material

level is ok,
there was an advisory last mot for the rear disks, So I will change all 4 disks and pads,
I was thinking more in terms of should I change the fluid, Iassume it boiled, should I be worried about excessive heat on thre wheel.bearings and seals

check if the return spring has not snapped and then caused the breaks to be applied when your driving about...

As above, see if the spring has gone on the pedal itself. Easiest thing to check first.

oh and other then boiling your fluid because the breaks were applied when driving, you might have warped a disk or overheaed your pads but you said you were changing them so it's a pointless point i just made... also I might of just made it up.. I feel like i know it from somewhere but no idea where
