I have the AP Racing big brake kit and I'm planning on replacing the seals, etc.
Has anyone done this before?

Is this the kit I need : http://www.elise-sho...s-p-415060.html

Although I know that the VX AP kit is different than the Elise one, I'm guessing that the caliper internals are the same?

I have Exige 4pots which I refurbished last year. The kit in the first link were the right set but the lead time was ridicules. If you have the thorny set, all 4pots are the same size (see in thorneys picture). The Elise-shop kit has the seals for the Exige 4pots (the ones i have) which have one big, one small each side (look in their picture to see two differently sized seals). So to answer your question that kit won't be correct for the piston seals. You need four 'big' seals instead of twe big, two small (each calliper). Use two flat head screwdrivers to lift the pistons out their pots. Then use brake cleaner to clean them. Soak the seals in brake fluid and lube the pots when you fit it all back. I also taped up the callipers and spared high temp pant over them. Stuck some new stickers on and then high temp clear coat over it all to finish. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the heads up. So if that's not the correct kit for my calipers, where do I get one from? Is the only way to contact AP and ask them for one? Maybe if I just strip the calipers down, give them a good clean and put them back together using the existing seals, that'll be enough?

The inner seals should be fine and shouldn't of perished as they're soaked in fluid and sealed well away. The dust covers on the other hand can burn off (hence you can get a hardcore set which take more heat). http://www.elise-sho...s-p-415061.html I believe these to be the set you have? http://www.elisepart...brake-calipers/ So IMO your best bet is to contact Eliseparts (very helpful) and see if they can get you a set of seals and dust covers. Bleed nipples are the same as the set in your first link but only need replacing if corroded.

I'm looking at the pictures from the eliseparts site and the pics on thorneys site and both the dust covers and pistons look different. Maybe I'm being overly cautious by changing them. I'm not doing it because they've been heavily tracked, I'm doing it because my car has been stood for about 4 years and I'm giving it a full refresh.

I did have a set of the seal kit you needed. I got them off joe589 but this was when I found out they were all large and so wouldn't fit the smaller piston. I sold them on but might be worth asking him where he got them from. They had AP on the pack so might just be a case of getting a part number and going to AP like you've said. I would say they'll need dust covers but that's just a second barrier to stop crap getting through the inner seals. I good flush of new fluid through the whole system will help more if sat around for long.

Nice one, glad you found what you were after!

Looks easier to order from that website too, do you know which kit from this new website the normal 4 pot option refurb kit is?

No sorry, I don't know the part number for the normal exige style kit.

You can get that kit from ES though : http://www.elise-sho...s-p-415060.html
