Think they're just meant to turn off when the headlights come on or the engine turns off. Pretty sure that's how the OEM DRL's on the Audi work anyway.

I would like to do this for the rear lights more for people to see you ie in the rain

One of the dutch forum guys swapped ALL his lights, other then the main beam for led versions.
(no led option was powerfull enoug to replace the main beam)
All others were succesfully replaced.
He got them all from ebay china. Straight swap bulbs, no rewiring required.

Ah, found it. Enjoy the pixies.

But they don´t. I see most audi´s driving around with both DRL and main beams on.
I never focussed much on the 30% though, Only started paying attention to that this week :-)
They do look less bright running together with main beam.

It's configurable in one of the ECU's on my car, it can be set to UK/Sweden, USA or Europe. These aren't the bling LED DRL's though.

UK law says they only have to reduce in intensity if they're being used as sidelights as well (so remain on with the headlight main beam). My Audi has separate side lights as well as the DRL's, so that explains that.

My failed again on headlight alignment on its MOT , its the main beam thats hopeless , plus I think one of the fogs is out. I can't read dutch, but it looks like the M3 led is not a straightforward push on fit.

Does the 30% rule apply to UK?

With it being european legislation... good chance.

But take into consideration things like HIDs, other brand and models of cars with aftermarket angel eyes, projector lenses etc. quite a lot of that wont be E-marked and road legal yet alot of people still use it.

I love them mine will be on order next ...

You have your vx for 1 week , and you want to split your 2000 pounds lights to put in 10 pounds led's.
Very good. Carry on thumbsup

How about just fitting some EU marked aftermarket HID's with built in 'Angel Eyes' and all the switching?

I read his text, and he did not mention any issues with the H3, so straight swap.
With some of the lamps he had to switch the + and - wire to get it working.

So his T4W, H7 and H3 are leds. Only his H1 is xenon.

Would the Lens need to come off if the lights were fitted from the back?

No, but for the back part to come off, they would have to go in the oven.
That will make the lenses fall off automatically also. (or become very very loose, requiring refix)

Wouldn't the simplest option be to use a DRL control module? It would do all the above and aren't a lot of money, 15 to 20 English quids seems to be the going rate.

Yes.
Coolest option would be for the main beam to act as a trigger to tone down to 30%.
That way the citylights switch in the car will activate DRL, and the mainbeam switch will tone it down.
All within EU legislation me thinks, plus no major wiring needed, just a small control box outside the lamp unit.

Aftermarket lights for other cars could always be hacked up, might even be an improvement on the VX shite ones.

Yes, peugeot 307 aftermarkets are suppost to be really close, but you would need to make an interface between it, and the clam.
That will look really akward.
When built from scratch, they will be very expensive, due to massive costs in R&D and limited production.
